I was going to check the timing on my 360 today and could not find the mark, pointer...

On the 302 and 289 in my, Mustangs there is a little pointer that sticks out...!

the mark on the damper is a groove, and the timing angle indicator is seen by standing in front of the truck, on the passenger side, and looking at the front of the engine, next to the alternator. really hard to see. be careful of the fan!

Yep...it's kind of a pain in the butt to find at first, but it's there. Try looking at it from above AND below and see if you can see.....that helped me on my '76! I usually keep a little bottle of "white-out" in the garage for marking things like that....others use white chalk or white grease markers, whatever works!

Mine is blocked by one of the heater core hoses, so I have to stand on the passenger side front of the grille and look in the little oblong/triangle slot on the altenator bracket (the funky one that bolts on the front pivot of the altenator, the AC compressor, the water pump and on the lower timing cover with the other alt bracket behind it on the bottom) to see the timing marks. They definetely need to be marked to be readable though. Hope that helps.
