So it was cold and rainy today so I drew a rear bumper for the cherokee. It is a swing down style and the mock up tire is a 44" which is what I want to run. To use this bumper you would have to remove the rear tailgate which is fine but it should keep everything close and tight so I don't have a big tire hanging off the back.
What do you think?

neat design. 3 problems as I can see them:
1) no tow points (the swing-down blocks the frame locations)
2) lifting a tire and assembly up and down can be a bit of a pain, especially on the lower back
3) how would you keep the assembly secured when in the upright position?
Cool to see another idea on bumpers though.

Being there is a trailer hitch hole... Can you get your spare off while hooked up to the trailer? Say on the side of the road? A few little obsticals to overcome and then it looks like it should be workable.

I will add tabs for tow points, and the bottom part is steel that will be attached to the frame. This is to be a relpacememt bumper and tire carrier.
I am going to attach the side wrap around points the body the same way as the bottom hinge just with removable pins. I will also plate a support the points on the body where it will attach.
The trailer hitch hole is just another place for a tow point not necessarily for towing. I am a little to tall to tow anything.

Shipping to 32092 ... :D
I like it. I know what you mean about being tall and getting a big tire up there. Eventually when i bob and dove tail my rear I will eventually build somehting like this attached to the eventual cage so I can get my 150lb spare up in the air.
Man, there are a bunch of eventuals in there ...

I know there are a bunch of eventuals, this is my last semester of college and I only had two required classes to I am taking a welding class and you have to build a semsester long project.
O crap I HAVE to build a bumper, o well I guess if I have to. :D
