I just noticed that there was diuscussion on another thread about the naming of their rig. Im new to the FSJ group. Is naming your rig standard practice here? I think I want to name mine, and I have one in mind but I want to be sure Im not stepping on someones toes here by stealing their names. And maybe this topic has been beat into the ground but a name search brought up a big goose egg. What did you name your rig and why? Inquiring minds want to know.

We named mine "Crom" because it is a conglomeration of different years, and manufactures of parts, and since people were always "What the h*ll is that thing" we decided to say " It is a riddle in steel, Crom"! We also tell folks that it is a very rare only one ever imported into the USA, Australian Walk A bout!!

not too many of these rigs in this area. Anyway, a bunch of guys were discussing what cars they drive etc etc. (This was when I was really young and in college and the vehicle I drove back then was a Fire Truck Red Grand Wagoneer 1983 In fact it was on campus) Anyway, one of the guys ask me what I drive and I point to my wag. One of the guys in the group was from the islands and he said you drive that tank there?? the "Battle Cat?" And that name stuck to it. Battle Cat. (Everyone else had ricers and modern muscle cars (new mustangs, and such vehicles) but mine stood out. (Unfortunately that one was stolen.

My current rig, I was explaining to someone the name of the old rig and they could never seem to remember the name and they would keep saying hey did you drive your "Wild Cat" again? and eventually I just gave up and let the name stick since everyone sort of jumped on it. So There it is. "Wild Cat" was born.

My wag is called DeadWood, obviously because of the woodgrain, but it is also a bowling term and in last year's bowling league, I won a decent amount of money, all of which went into the wag.

Mine wears its name on the vanity plate--WOOD GO-- because I got it to go after fire wood. Until recently, it had a wooden bed which fit the name much better but the plate came before the wooden bed. I now have a metal bed back on the frame but the name will stay.

My screen name is actually the name of my old waggin' ear. I bought it from a nice lesbian couple who unimaginatively called it "Woody" -- go figure. Once I'd bumped things up a few notches I decided to stay with that theme and re-christen the thing "Serious Johnson".

My sports car is "Rocinante", after don Quixote's nag. Dear Li'l Sis has an Audi named "Innie".

:funny:
The '76 still carries the name given by Don S' daughter.
I call the '79 Chief "Junaluska" (I cannot begin to tell you how its pronounced, and I always spell it wrong) Supposedly the name of a Cherokee Chief (actual person, not a Jeep) translated to english means, "He tries repeatedly, but fails". It should be noted I have never driven this vehicle.

I call it only Woody...

KNOWPIE4U
10-05-2009, 07:25 AM
My 71 J truck's name is Bruiser, because it used to have a wood bed with a wood door in the bed to fill the gas. Well the first time I filled it up I left the door half way up and it came crashing down and cracked me in the head and left a knot. Hence forth Brusier.

My 89 grand wag the ony name I can think of for it is Walkie, because if I ask the dog if they want to go for a walkie they run to the grand wag.

Mine are all named after Goddesses associated with the moon.

77 white 401 wag - Phoebe
76 white 401 SOA wag - Luna
77 white J20 - Artemis

My first FSJs were a cumberland green 79 Wag named Splendid, and an 81 baby blue wag named Stella Blue.

We ended up with my Dad's 70's Cherokee with a souped up 401 and named him Cozmo the Street Stomper. That 401 has been transplanted into Flint's 88 who's named Wally the 4-OH-1-derwagon, or as I affectionately call him "The Blue Moose".

The dually J truck is red and white and reminded me of a huge red horse I rode waaaaay back when. So we named him Sampson after my old horse.

I'm with Tad - the naming tradition was well in play when I got here, but the one that always stood out to me was "Timex".

Being here in Texas, I know that every good cowboy needs a good horse, and "Trigger" has certainly met that requirement.

I call my J-4000 "Leroy" because it's just so rrrredneck.

I call the blue Wagoneer "Blue" but for some reason a coworker called it "Emmit" which seems to have stuck.

The same guy calls my '85 diesel Jetta "Fritz" which works because on accounta it's German, and it's always on the fritz.

'88 we named Mississippi when I first got her because she was from Mississippi. Kinda like Miss Budwieser.

My daughter calls her '81 Babe from Babe the blue ox.

I need to stop calling the '89 my brother's Jeep, or Bob's Jeep......
So I'm going with "New Jeep" Because it's new to me, and it's the newest daily driver I've ever had.

My '73 J4000 was White spot or whitey (MIRIP) and '83 Cherokee was Elmo (as in Elmer Gency Jeep) while my '84 J10 started out as Blackie, but became Black Jack as the LPG conversion was a gamble on fuel prices and it has a Stroker awaiting install once my wiring is done. '76 shortbox J10 is rustyJ (only surface rust because the PO took it down to bare metal for repainting and didn't finish), '83 J10 is BlueJ (dark dark blue)
Haven't named the '82 stepside Honcho yet, but my Comanches are Sarge (red '87 shortbox bought from the base here), Molly ('86 MJ longbox that did the Ouray '02 trip) and my '82 AMC is "Spirit of the Eagle" (Spirit hatchback with Eagle rear and soon to have Eagle front axle)

F---ing fascists!! I have a similar issue with my HOA. Most recently was a "Final Notice" with a deadline to move before I'm fined. That's how the 79 Chief came to be known as Sitting Bull. Now that it actually runs, but needs a clutch, t/o bearing & u-joints, I'm thinking "Fenway" as in "The Green Monster" might wotk out pretty well. Especially since my 5 year old is fixated on "making the Cherky into a monster truck"!

I bought my j-10 with a name already. Apparently a LOT of people on this board know the history of this truck (probably more than me even).

TIMEX. I am thinking because the truck has probably 10 million miles on it...but it "takes a licking and keeps on ticking"...hence TIMEX. It's getting a heart transplant soon but the truck itself is still there.

I actually thought about renaming it but was told gremlins would get me and string me up by my eyebrows if I did so the name stuck even though the truck looks nothing like it did when I got it.

I call my TJ the albatross. Poor thing was a basket case when I got it and even though now it's better by far I feel like it's just hanging around my neck waiting to drop off at any moment!

Hello, ya'll my first serious post! I named my `87 Grand Wagoneer "Elwood," cuz of the wood panels. I had a `94 Grand Cherokee, (which I sold after getting one of my dream cars, the wag) but it didn't have a name, cuz while it did it's duty well, I was never too fond of it.

And while this may be slightly off-topic, as it pertains to a Volvo not a Jeep, I had a 240 named "White Base" in reference to the ship from an anime...

My dad jokingly started calling my cherokee "Chief Bowels" (from one of his favorite jokes - "Chief Bowels no move!"). I'm probably going to try to change it's name to Chief Bowles (a real cherokee chief) once it can move under its own power. His cj-3a is named Jezebel, and my friend's cj-6 is named Amanda. I've only had my 88 GW for about 3 months now and was able to take it out this past weekend on it's Maiden voyage (since I've had it) I was really impressed with how it performed out on the sand and rocks and washes. I named her "La Mula" which means "The Mule" Once the fun was over and was driving home, she overheated and it sounds like I lost a piston, so not only does she climb like a mule, she is also stubborn as a mule.

As her punishment (probably more like mine) she is going to have to sit parked until I have the money to rebuild or replace the engine.

I named my 80 W/T Cherk Cheif Many Moons. Probably very non PC plus it was a laredo not a cheif but the original plan was to restore it and give it either a black/red or black/metallic Cheif style paint job.

The 88 GW got the name George Washington because its initial ar GW and I had just watched that George Washington song by super deluxe (you tube it if you havent seen it)

I have acquire another 88 GW and an 82 CJ7 in the last few months but I am waiting till I get back from Iraq and meet them to name 'em.

The SuperChief project is named because it will be the Cherokee that Jeep never made... but my boys still call it Elwood because that was the donor GW's nickname.

The ChopTop was named long before it came to me... another forum project that has changed hands a few times. But again, the boys choose to call it the "booty truck" because of the nose art that will eventually be painted on it.

so we stroke the dash and call her good girl.
We have a bucket truck that is used as a spare in case one of the others goes down. It was my truck last year and never gave me any problems. My apprentice hates it because it has a lot of miles on it and the bucket isn't as fast as the other and has some real idiosyncrasy's in it's operation. It needs a new main valve assemble which is close to 3 grand just for the valve. Since she doesn't have the hand and arm strength to make it work it makes for a long day for her when we have to use it. Every time she starts ragging on it i reach up and stroke the dash and say "there there" it drives her nuts when I tell her not to piss off the equipment by hurting it's feelings. I further drive her crazy by reaching out and stroking the drivers side door while we're working

Mine was named Snowbird Hunter since I live in an area where ther are a lot of Snowbirds (retired folks who come to enjoy the warm winters). A local saying around here is "If it is Snowbird season, why can't we shoot them?"

From all that the name just kinda evolved ......
