Just removed catcon, as expected have an increase in power. In the process of removing, noticed Im in need of a new exhaust system, muffler is shot. Any suggestions. Kind of like that "deep throaty", no pun intended, sound. Heard of guys going with 3" pipes, instead of the standard 21/2. Im no crew cheif by any means, and know less about exhaust systems. would like to here some tried and true setups you fellas have gone with. thanks

If it hasn't been said already welcome.Personally I staid with the 2-1/4" because of $$ but you can go with 2-1/2"(3 isn't really neccessary IMHO),but used mandrel bent and went with a Dynomax superturbo. My mistake was the 1 I bought was to short in case length, this caused to much resonance on the highway for me.From what I've read Flowmaster "70" series(for motorhomes)are quiet, but both Dynomax(especially and less $$) and Gibson outflow Flowmaster below 3500rpm.I think on my Jimmy I'm going with Gibson.

erm...
catalytic converter?
For exhaust, factory should be 2.25" for V8 FSJ's. For what muffler you wanna go withm it depends how loud you want it and how much you wanna pay. A staight through like a glasspack or the like are cheaper (about 30 bucks for a quality one), are mellow toned when idling or mid throttle. But when you floor it they do get loud.
Flowmasters are much more expensive, can be semi-mellow or obnoxciouse (sp?). They dont last as long as many other mufflers out there. In my experiances around here they rot out from condensation. The outside is coated for anti rust, but the inside isnt.
Many people here like super turbos. They have a good sound, dont cost a whole bunch, and arent super loud in most cases.
i am real happy with my magna flow muffler. nice low rumble and gets louder at higher speeds.

I just couldn't justify spending a lot of money on a muffler, but I wanted high flow and louder than stock sound. After pricing all of the name brands, I went into Checker auto parts and the guy there told me what he was runnin on his rig.
Its called the "afterburner" It cost 39.99 its a high flow, aluminized, heavy, 1 piece, no visible seams, if sounds deep and mellow. Its has survived 5 or 6 hard core wheeling trips without anything more than cosmetic damage. No complaints whatsoever. model # 50322FLT
good luck,

Flowmaster
Dynomax
Pro Flow
Gibson
These are all good muffler choices. Even if you get custom bent pipes, a catback system should not cost more than $200-$250.
Since my motor is not really built up in any way, I decided to stay with 2.5" pipes (I did not want to sacrifice any low end torque, which can happen if you go to 3" pipes). If my motor was more built up or my gearing a little lower, I probably would have gone 3"
