electric fuel pump

i recently purchased a 77 cherokee from another state, hasnt arrived yet, the previous owner said that he has had some strange noises coming from the jeep when it warms up, he says he thinks that he mounted the electric fuel pump too far away from the gas tank, does this make a difference?

I have a Carter 70gph electric fuel pump mounted just forward of the transfercase support crossmember and have been running that way for 20 years. Where is your electric pump mounted?

... The link below covers the electric fuel pumps pretty well. I use them and have several hooked up with on - off switches. each has its own sound and the sound will change as the carburetor loads up with fuel. I don't try to start the engine until the load-up is complete. If a fuel line was to break I would hear the pump change sound. Should you ever run out of fuel the electric pump will prime the carburetor for you... Also I can pump fuel into another vehicles tank on the trail if need be...

I've installed a few. I try to install them within a few feet of, and below the lowest point of the gas tank. Do you have a pressure gauge and regulator installed? If the pressure is staying constant. all is fine. smile.gif

why do i need a pressure guage and regulator?

Sometimes you'll need a regulator if the output of the electric pump is more than stock. Carbs can only handle so much fuel pressure.

The old AFB's were notorious for flooding if you didn't have a regulator on them. More than 4 lbs would blow past the needle and seat and flood out.
But that was a long time ago (70's) :D :D :D
