I'm looking for references to convert my A/C into a compressor to hookup my air tools in the field. Anyone done this?

TIP: Keep the factory pressure side hose as long as you can, if cut short heat will cause failures at that junction. Get a check valve too

This topic has been covered ;)

His wright up is not true on the compressor. Some of the reservoir oil will be sucked up and compressed into your air system. If you modify the compressor by blocking off the oil hole you can stop most of the oil going into the air system. But you will still need to use an oil seperator in the air line to catch the extra oil.

or not worry about extra oil in the lines....

I have not seen any issues without a seperator, but maybe the 7 of us just got lucky.

I've set up a bunch of these for OBA and they work great. One of mine blows a lot of oil through it but I think it's because it's a left hand suction model which is not what you want for it laying on it's side rotated towards the passenger fender. The oil keeps your tools lubed:thumbsup: I just keep an eye on the oil level in the compressor. I've been running this one for about 10 years like that.

The other ones I have with right hand suction don't blow much if any oil.

My 69 had a ford compressor and custom bracketery all set up. Tank was under drivers side. They used a oil filter as an air filter.
