Well I used to be close to you 10 years ago, never had any of my FSJ'S up there, and didn't see many except for a blue short bed J10 that was around then. A former coworker started a shop in Crosslake and had a J20 farm truck in there one time I stopped in. If he hasn't retired yet Dennis at Tanner's was the only old school FSJ mechanic in town, and the about the only one that got to work on them when they came in, I think I only got to work on one wag. If Dean's junkyard is still in Baxter and didn't crush a bunch of stuff they had a fair selection of FSJ last time I was there in 01 or 02.

I've been to Tanner's. Towed a friends Dodge about 30 miles at 2 in the morning after his fuel pump started to die. It would idle so at least he had power brakes and heat. Temps were only in the 20's. We had 6 wheelers with us. One in my truck, one in his, and 4 more on the trailer. Gave my truck a good workout. A trooper pulled up after we unhooked and got the trailer back on my truck. He let us know he seen us and we were lucky he was busy at the time. He was glad to see we made it to a safe location, shook his head and laughed then went on his way. We were on our way to visit other friends and relatives in Pine River.

I'm on the other end of the state from you, but yep, I'm in MN.

I used to hang out at the Whitefish Chain back in the day. What was the name of the bar around Crosslake, The Exchange?

Spent alot of time at B.I.R. in the early 80s too.

Hey there 89wagoneerowner,

I'm over in Duluth, less than an hour from Gilbert OHV Park.
I moved up here a littler over a year ago now, from Michigan's Upper Penninsula.

I've got a nice shiny 87 Grand Waggy, a 76, J10 Shortbox plow truck and a 77, CJ5 that all run, plus a few more projects...

We need to get together and play Jeep sometime soon, as I was in the last bunch at CIRRUS Aircraft that got layed-off, and I will probably be moving yet this fall somewhere else for work. Hopefully only as far as Northwest Wisconsin or the Twin Cities area.

Welcome to the Madness.

Im in the twin cities area. Working on my 87 wag now, she is getting new quarters this weekend. Other than that just a 2004 baby jeep and a POS escort for daily driving and salty winters.

I was at Tanner's less than a year after I got laid off at Europa Motorsports, sold my house and moved back south. I made the rounds while I lived up there, First 6 months in the apartments behind Market Square in Baxter, then had a house out on Hardy Lake road. Started out working at Dondelinger, went to Northland auto before it changed owners, And I really liked working for the Brit that had Europa Motorsports. Main reason I moved was due to medical issues with my oldest son that just turned 10 in August, we're now back home 25 miles from Mayo clinic.

I live in Wisconsin, but my best friend is a Waggy fanatic and lives in Knife River, MN. I just got back from a hunting trip to Wyoming with him in his 89 Grand Waggy that has lived a lot of it's life in MN so it is more rust than metal, but still got us there and back.

Here, here! Fellow Minnesotan checking in!
Live/based in Minneapolis, The Jeep and I have spent alot of time working in the Brainard lakes area over the years, almost home away from home.

Northland motors on 371 really messed my Jeep up in the early 90s..

When the new owners took over they loaded the lot with used cars, Leo the guy I worked for there only had half a dozen or so. Like I say been 10 years so who knows. I also worked just outside the main gates to BIR, I could not believe the changes there when I was last in the area 5 years ago.

Glat, not correct spelling, was the only one that made it out, I had trailer problems with a Honcho I was picking up so he was actually there waiting for me.

It's Glatt513 and I know the Pine River / Backus / Hackensack / Longville / Walker area well, too. My in-laws have a cabin by Backus and I ride ATV, snowmobile & fish in that area whenever I get a chance (which has not been much lately). The Mopar dealer in PR was bought out by Houston Ford and then closed, they lost their Chrysler dealership. I think Dondelinger lost their Chev dealership, too. When I was up there in August I was surpised that lots of places have closed up in that area.

I live by Dodge Center and run with a bunch of Ford off road guys from Cannon City. You can't miss my FSJ . . . it's has "Sally Whacker" painted on both sides in safety yellow (that's what happens when you leave your rig in the shop on a Friday night and you are out snowmobiling)

The Pine River Mopar place was Osterloh I think, Are you just talking aboy Dondelinger's Pine River place? I knew they closed everything but Brainerd, they had Little Falls and DL also, and sold Toyota off to Denny Hecker. It's been nearly 10 years since I left they were building like crazy then, helped me sell my house up there.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but I just got here. :drivin:

I see some familiar names from other spots on the 'net - Howdy folks

I'm NE of Rochester. Millville is the closest thing to a town near me....

Grew up in Isle, though, so I know some of the areas you guys are talking about up there....

Say, has anyone seen a solid frame that will fit under my 79 Cherokee. I would like to find something fairly close by...

You should swing out sometime, I'm around 4 miles NW of Millville, and my 82 J20 plow truck will be going there to Appel's for an alignment soon.

01-19-2011, 04:11 PM
My screen name is FTP, that would be...Flat Top Phil, so if you see a blue '72 in the cities bein driven by a guy w/ a flat top it's probably me.

I am in Bloomington, about 10 minutes from MOA. My '72 Wag is sitting in a shop in Lakeville waiting for me to get time to work on it. (Road worthy now, just want to tighten a few things up.) I am interested in selling it, or trading it for a little less of a project, at least that's what I tell the wife. (But then, the right deal and I would have to let her go...The Wagy that is.):D

I'll have the Wagy running good by spring, so post up if peeps are meeting anywhere around the area, I'd love to take her off road and finds out what she's good for, I don't know the PO's, but I'm guessing this Wag hasn't seen much off road time. (It's still pretty straight.)

Oh and BTW, this is my first Jeep ever, so I'm looking forward to passin' up some Fords in mud puddles!

I live in Motley, been here about a year and a half. I'm originally from Spokane, WA, so most of Minnesota it unknown to me. I dive the mine pits around Ironton/Crosby, and will be finishing up my commercial diving stuff at MSD in Brainerd. Nice to see some FSJ-ers in my area. If you see a butt-ugly rustbucket 82 Honcho running around with dive gear in the back and a grease-stained hippy in the drivers seat, it's me! Always up for romping around trails and whatnot, as soon as this thing is back on the road.
