Buy it through www.crawltech.com (http://www.crawltech.com) . They will give you a better price than Rusty's directly and shipping will be less. Crawltech is in Texas. I would start spraying all your nuts and bolts with penatrent. If you know anyone with impact tools maybe take them to dinner if they let you use their tools. :D

Does rusty have rear springs for a '74?

AH good call will e, He doesn't as far as I know. Maybe Stuka will chim in and let us know if Rusty's has a rear leaf set yet for the earlier suspensions yet. I think he was going to be working with Rusty on that. You could do a shackle flip in the rear and not use lift springs. I don't know how much total lift you will gain so I will let some one else chim in on that.

To y knowledge no. I have talked with him through email about such a kit. And he says it is in the works. But no word as of yet when it will be done.

So for now if you wanted, by the front springs, and then doa shackle flip with 2" blocks in the back (back will sit a bit higher if your rear springs arent sagged). My are not sagged sot he back end sits about 1.5" higher then the front. And then when the springs are made available you could by them and put them on.

What about a different brand lift, such as Rough Country, SkyJacker, or Superlift??? Do they make a lift system for a 74'?

Thanks

Hrm: are we talking about your '74 J-Turck? If so I think the J-Trucks used box mount springs from 74 and up. To be sure..go look out at your rear springs, and see if the mount look like this -->

If it does then the rear springs will NOT work. If it does not, and the mount has a "box" around it on both side, then they will work.

PS: I have a shackle flip, soo in stock form the shackle points up.

That is exactly what my shackles look like. I looked at the vin tag and found out that the guy that I bought the truck from miss informed me about the year. It is a 73' J10 not a 74'. The truck already has a 2" lift w/rear blocks and the front d-side spring has a busted leaf. I am now planning to buy a pair of front springs with either three or four inches of lift and do a shacle flip in the rear. Any tips before I start this? aside from start soaking the bolts now??

Thanks again!

You may want to try and find some new bushings for the rear springs. One of mine was kinda bad, but the other where fine. But if they arent all rotted out, just unbolt from the shackel side, flip the shackle, and bolt it back up. I had to use a huge pipe wrench that I have (3ft long) to turnt he shackle, as the rubber was froze to the center pin. I actually got a much smoother ride after doing this...I think mainly because the springs DID NOT want to flex. Because their mounts front and rear where seized. I spray them with silicone spray not and then, to prevent this from happening again.

Ok. I got everything ordered today and just need to know what to do if I don't have a 3foot pipe wrench to turn the shackle? Also will WD-40 work if I don't have penetrent?

Thanks for all the great info guys

hmm...does your front springs have that same spring mount setup, TEX?? If they do, then it is my knowledge that those front springs won't work either. I have a 73 and it has side hung, post mounted springs like in the rear. Also, the front springs on mine were 2" wide, and newer rigs have 2.5" wide springs.

WD-40 will work (kinda), but go and get a can of PB blaster. It is MUCH better. You probably will need some kind of mechanical assistance to turn your shackle. I used a bolt through the holes and a section of pipe to get mine to turn.
