Congress to Vote on H.R. 1925 America's Red Rock Wilderness Act This Thursday!
Moab Might Be Gone Forever!

The Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources has scheduled a hearing on October 1 to consider H.R. 1925, America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009.
This legislation -- which will ban off-highway vehicle (OHV) access to public lands to those who live and recreate in
Utah -- was introduced by New York Representative Maurice Hinchey.
However, not a single Representative from Utah is supporting H.R.1925.
Specifically, H.R. 1925 would designate more than nine million more acres as federally protected "Wilderness," and directly affect the Moab, San Rafael Swell and Chimney Rock areas (to name a few) in Utah.
These popular OHV areas represent some of the most important remaining OHV recreation areas in Utah, and are some of the most popular with responsible OHV riders. The proposed Wilderness designation would also make the land off limits to ATV riders, mountain bikers and horseback
riders.
Coming on the heels of the recently enacted Omnibus Public Land Management Act, which closed 2 million acres of public lands, this vast Wilderness bill will take away additional recreation opportunities currently enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.
The AMA needs your help now to stop H.R. 1925. The fastest way to reach your U.S. Representative is to call them. You can find contact information for your elected officials by entering your zip code on AmericanMotorcyclist.com, clicking on "Rights," then "Issues and Legislation." Additionally, a prewritten e-mail is available for you to send to your Representative immediately by following the "Take
Action" option and entering your information.
Please contact your Representative right away and urge them to oppose H.R. 1925.
It's VERY VERY SIMPLE! Just click here...
http://capwiz.com/amacycle/issues/al...ertid=14061961 (http://capwiz.com/amacycle/issues/alert/?alertid=14061961)
... and you will be taken to the AMA's (American Motorcycle
Association) website. Enter your zip code and a letter will be sent to your representative urging them to vote NO on this bill.
Do it NOW! please
Everybody help this Bill Fail!!!

Now, is this bill for the established trails themselves, and just telling people not to drive off the trail?

Wilderness means no access. Period. No bikes, no horses, no ORV. No nothing.

Look at Angel Arch. You used to be able to Jeep up to it, ride a horse, take a mtn bike or anything really. Now you must do the entire 30 mile each direction hike in one day just to see the arch. You're not allowed to camp as it is 'wilderness' and the area is closed from sunset to sunrise...BS if you ask me.

Absolutely. Moab and all the other little towns in that area would cease to exist without back country access. The entire county would fade away. Arches and Canyonlands aren't enough to support them. I'm really disgusted by the whole thing.
And what about river rafting? Can you raft through a wilderness area? There goes another business. :banghead:

Actually desiginated Wilderness allows hiking and horse back/mule/llama use, just no motorized or mechanized use, ie. OHV, mtn bike, snowmobile, etc.
SUWA (Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance/Association) has been waging this fight for at least the past 20 years that I know of. United and Blue Ribbon Coalition have had the lead on it for years and both (especially BRC) deserve support and membership. I hate to say it, but with the makeup of congress right now, this is one of the early fights we are bound to lose. We lost a big chunk here earlier this year. And we will see more of it sooner rather than later.

much of this started here on the east coast, and is just now going to the west. We've lost many of our public wheeling lands here already, and the f'in morons are also trying to close the private parks (and have succeeded on shutting down many of them). Unfortunately, the folks fighting us bring a lawsuit that many places can't afford to fight, so they just close their doors rather than risk a long, drawn-out and expensive lawsuit....even when it's ridiculous and they shouldn't have to fight.

3 Address's I explained to every one of them that Union members had a hand at getting them elected and I'll fight to get each of them unelected and they can go down the road kicking rocks as far as I am concerned! Sang it I ain't had a chance to wheel in Moab yet

Sent. We're facing some of the same type of governing/management in the Stanislaus National Forest here. It's really frustrating when "Urban America" gets to tell "Rural America" how to run their own local affairs.

Dear Mr. Repp:
Thank you of informing me of your opposition to H.R. 1925, the America's Red Rock Wilderness Act. Your thoughts on these important matters are most welcome and appreciated.
As you know, to expand the NWPS, on April 2, 2009, Representative Maurice Hinchey (NY) re-introduced H.R. 1925, the America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009. If enacted, H.R. 1925 would designate specified lands in the following areas of Utah as components of the National Wilderness Preservation System, including the Mojave Desert, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Glen Canyon, and Canyonlands Basin. Further, this legislation would prohibit the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from exercising any development on the over 9 million acres comprising the Red Rock Wilderness in Utah. In addition, H.R. 1925 would severely limited the use of recreational and off road vehicles in the area. Presently, H.R. 1925 awaits action in the House Committee on Natural Resources.
Rest assured, your opposition to the America's Red Rock Wilderness Act will be remembered during the 111th Congress. Again, thank you for contacting me; and for all you do for our community and our country. Should you have any further comments or questions on this or any other issue, please contact me at the Livonia or Milford district, or Washington, D.C. office.
I work for you.
Sincerely,

In fact if you check the link about the House Natural Resources (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/committee.xpd?id=HSII)
which is the
House Committee on Natural Resources
you will get a list of all the 49 members of the panel, clicking on their pict will give you a record of their vote, and can find who is your state rep....
It list the
Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/committee.xpd?id=HSII10)
wich are the ones doing the screening for HR1925, list is empty today
But below their picts is the list of bills that are up for reviews.... listing about 3000 bills (no I did not count... I went by the bill number and 3700 is the last one), you start to wonder who is doing the prereview.
18 bills are heading toward the house for voting
It list the one failed, and the 5 that made is out of the house and senate....

If you have to waste (recovering from bad back), check that bill.... If you want to buy federal land (only 25acres)... it needs an act of congress... (curious to know what is in that lot), does not seem to offer any competitive bidding either..... H.R.337, at least it is presented by it own member of congress.
