I'm having some bodywork done on my Cherokee down here in Argentina, so I'm intending to paint the lower part of the truck in its original color. So far I had no luck in finding a paintshop that can come up with the color mixture code, since Jeeps were only imported since the late eighties, early nineties...
However, if they knew the PPG (or maybe Sikkens, but I guess that being a european paint manufacturer, it wouldn't be very known in the US) color code, they could mix it right away.
I could, of course, buy a gallon of basecoat through the internet and have it shipped here. However, that would cost me, including shipping and customs, somewhere around 700-800$. If I have a PPG paint code the same gallon would cost me around 150$ down here.
I have already tried a few sites on the net but every time I did, they were trying to sell me their paint rather than give me the code...
Does anybody know of a way to find out that miserable code..?
The color I'm looking for is 9K / sable brown metallic for 1979.
Help would be greatly appreciated... thanks...

Wrote down your info, I'll look it up at work. I mix DuPont paints and have noticed that all Jeep colors are listed under the Chrysler tab on the computer with the DuPont program. This includes the Willys, Kaiser, and AMC years. May be the same with PPG program. I'll get the color mix code from a PPG dealer down the street from us and send you a PM with the mix code for PPG paint before this weekend.

Edit: I'll get the mix code for 1 gallon.

Thanks for the info... I take it the first codes with no manufacturer mentioned are the PPG codes..?
Will try with the local paint store this afternoon and let you know.
Thanks again...

By the way, Janie, I was seriously considering buying your truck and driving it down here with a bed full of spare parts. If I wasn't in the midst of building a house and therefore low on cash, I would just do that. I'm still keeping an eye on your sale, though...

@mic63: pm sent

I went to a local and very small paint shop in the area that sells PPG automotive paint but they couldn't help me. This might be because they're just very small with limited supplies, or, and this is what I think, they only have the mixture recipes for the color codes for the cars that were actually sold down here...
In any case, tomorrow I'll go to Cordoba, the next bigger city and will try my luck there. I'll keep you posted...

If you see a DuPont dealer, give them a copy of this:

This is DuPonts less expensive Nason line. A good single stage, easy to use paint. Reducer, activator / hardener are not required. The numbers to the right of the colors are listed in Grams. I'll stop back at the local PPG dealer and take another shot at getting their top secret formula for this color.
