I ordered my new Jacob's off-road ignition upgrade last week. It hasn't come in yet, but since I've ordered it, I've heard nothing but negative about it. Gary Boyd knocked it in the ifsja electrical tech archives. A coworker of mine said something similar. Do you think I need to send it back and order MSD$? I could use a few more technical opinions here. Thanks!

i had an msd 6a for several months. it did nothing for me. then i sold it and put in a jacobs. no benefits right away, but after a few months i noticed there was no pinging anymore. that was on premium. i switched to mid-grade and no pinging. i switched to regular and i had just a little pinging. i had tried regular before the msd and after, with massive pinging and 9 mpg. now i get 13+ and just a trace of ping.
highly recommended. at least by me.

I've talked a fellow who had the Jacob's setup on his 79 F250 and he loved it, couldn't say enough about it.
MSD stuff seems nice to me, but I feel it's overpriced.

Never used it myself but a lot of the boating crowd I used to run with used them on big HP applications as well as stock Mercruiser application and they performed very well, really stood up to the beating that offshore boating produces.

I've been considering the MSD 6A myself, anyone running one of these with any benefit ?

I am running the MSD distributor and 6AL box as seen here http://members.aol.com/mpeg1234/401/DSC00841.JPG and here http://members.aol.com/mpeg12345/jeep/Wag1936.JPG . Seems like it runs pretty good to me. I went with the 6AL for the Rev Control built in already. I put the adjust-a-chip in if I ever take it to a service shop for whatever reason (usually only bodywork or alignment) and turn it down to about 2000 rpm. Plus I have the Adjustable Timing Module I need to hook up but it's adjustable within 15 degrees at the turn of a knob. First sign of pinging, turn the knob and retard the timing. That's only available with MSD. Beats getting out in the cold to adjust it the old fashioned way.
I haven't messed with Jacobs other than the coil I am running is the chrome plated Jacobs coil. No problems with it though.

WOW ! That is one sweet looking engine !
Great idea on the rev limiter, that's a use I hadn't thought of. Thanks for the feedback. I know a couple of guys that run the adjustable timing, they couldn't live without it. Cheap gas through the week (89)and race fuel(95)on the weekend.
