258 cost?

how much would you guys pay for a 258 that came out of a cj-7 minus the alternator? it ran when parked about a year ago and it had about 30 psi when hot and runnin' down the road but when hot and idle it only had about 5-10 psi any ideas? otherwise it ran good.

I don't know how much I'd pay, but I have one in similar condition I'll sell ya (including a good TF727, attached) for $150.

Needs a valve job, so I'd just go with a 4.0 head swap...

i have a good 4.0l ho complete with harness for sale has 60psi hot running down the road and 13 15 psi ilding hot.

258s generally don't have OP problems. So, that low a hot idle OP says it's a worn engine to me. I'd say maybe $50 to $100 if I was looking for a rebuildable core or a crank donor for a stroker. Note that the pre-81 engines are worth slightly more than the later ones because they have the 12 counterweight (heavier) crank.

I'd keep looking. Try a WTB ad on your local Jeep/4x4 forum.
