I picked up an old glovebox clock (Mid sixtys) and disected it a little. Its one of these http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd178/RedScrambler/DSC00569.jpg?t=1243454145
Took out 2 small screws on the back and pulled her apart carefully. Thing is is that some dirt and filth is all over the inside of the lens and the Clock time set knob is the only thing holding it on to the glass face plate. Does anyone know for sure how the set knob comes off the shaft that passes through the glass of the clock? Don't want to break it. I tryed turning the knob while holding the other end of the time set gear but .... Is it pressed on? or should I try to take off the time set gear on the other end?

Really it'd be worth bringing to a clockmaker/jewelry repair shop. Or just douse the thing in ECC (electrical contact cleaner..it removes particles as it dries) and hope for the best..

I'm going to take mine to someone who knows what their doing. I thought about some kind of solvent or cleaner but figured with my luck the slightest little drip the wrong way and the painted numbers would wipe away. I did use an air brush gun to blow some of the dust out, unfortunatly, with a very low volume and pressure of air I did strip the red paint off the hour hand. Other than that, it did do a good job of cleaning it out. I looked at removing it from the gear on the other end but conciderd the risk of breaking it to high. It works, so the detailed cleaning is going to have to wait.

ages ago, my buddy had a 52 Buick. He fixed the clock on it. the old clocks were basicly a clock with a motor that wound the main spring. Usually, it is the winding motor that gets gummed up and dies.

I actully got the clocl Mechinism out of the body bezel with the glass still intact. Still cant get the time set knob off. I cleaned the back side of the glass somwhat. I need to get that knob off so I can touch up the inner white painted ring. The clock itself is working. Anyone know about removing the knob??

I am not sure about this particular unit, sorry. Most of the ones I have seen screw on. It looks like a Beauty. I love analog clocks. I think it really completes the look.

Hello, Just wanted to post the solution to this problem so that it may possable help someone in the future.: on the time set knob shaft beneath the glass/plastic face plate there is a squared off shape that you can grab with some needle nose vice grips or if you have clockmans tools some type of tiny wrench, with that secured you can unscrew the time set knob by working it slowly and carefully. Once the knob is off it all comes apart and you can clean it up nice with some qtips and mild cleaner.

That clock isn't the one I actully have, mine is not nearly as nice. I stole the pic from another post here, so no diagram.
