Anyone know anything about the AMC 390. My son and I saw a show this weekend about 390's in AMC Muscle Cars. Anyone have any experience with these and have they ever been in a Jeep? Is it a bored 360? It was only a few minuets of a show I think is called American Muscle on cable.

Ah ha, we were both wrong. So the 390 was the bad boy for the AMX two seater. That was what the program was about, the AMX. So the 390 became the 401 later. I just haden't heard of one. Makes sense now. My son, the engine builder, got interested in finding one. Non issue as I have dibs on 3 401's in a shead. Each one has a different problem so we are still deciding which block we're going to use. The 390's didn't have the dog leg manifolds either. Thanks.

Its awesome. A friend of mine has like 10k into his 390, bored and fuel injected. Sitting a 1980 Jeep Jamboree...its A LOT of motor for a baby jeep :D

390 68-69 regular square port heads and in 1970 had dog leg heads and forged rods. Those 1970 heads are a bolt on power adder for 71-91 AMC engines

There's a member on here, JSTGGS, he has a J20 that somebody swapped a 390 into. I forget what tranny it has but it is quick for a farm truck:eek:
