About 4 months ago my jeep would have a loss of power while going about 55 mph or so. You could even watch the speedo go down while giving it more gas. I replaced the vac lines to the carb and put on a new fuel filter. The old filter was the original so it was well due for a change. It did fine for about 3 months or so, then the same thing would happen on the highway then even around town going only 35. My dad said replace the fuel filter and see what happens, not knowing it had been done four months earlier. Well we put a new one on anyway and it hasn't been happening. I know I have a hole in one of my gas tanks cause after about $20 goes in, it starts coming right back out. So...is it possible that the hole in my tank is letting moisture in which in turn is causing rust on the inside of my tank which then gets trapped in my fuel filter, which causes my jeep to lose power and sometimes die because it isn't getting the gas it needs? BTW...Please say yes.

yes!...if you have changed the filter twice and each time it has improved things, I would say yes it is the filter!...and Yes that would cause your symptoms.....do you still have the bad filter? if so cut it open and see what is inside..that will tell you a bunch!!!...also if fuel can come out of the tank, dirt can go back in!.....I would seriously look into that issue!

Good Luck!

I would also add a big filter before the fuel-pump, as debris can cause the fuel-pump diaphram to rupture. But debris from the tank sounds like a good culprit.

If you have trash in your tank a filter before the fuel pump is a must. You can have your gas tank cleaned and lined and this will solve your problem. I had mine done instead of buying a new one. Just make sure that they do it right and get all the rust out before they line it. A good company will clean it in an acid bath before lining it.
