Has anyone put a cummins turbo diesel into their FSJ? If so how difficult of a swap is it and what kind of mileage does it get? Does it mount up to the trans or does that have to be heavily modified?

Some people make it sound it would easier to swap the whole frame under the jeep. I was told those engines are heavy,

Wait a sec are you talking about the 4bt are 6bt?

The 4bt fits nicly in the engine bay but your stock trans won't bolt up to it, are even hold up to the extra power. If you play your cards right and measure you could probaly run the 4bt whatever trans to that and an adapter to the trans and then your stock transfer case. Then maybe you won't need new driveshafts if you lay the engine in the right position.

yeah... i've got the 6BT in mine... but i did the trick of swapping bodies and modifying the frame... the dodge frame is much heavier than the jeep frame...

If staying with an auto transmission, a GM tranny adapter with tilt (expensive) and 700R4 tranny will work. Or, you could find a Dodge tranny adapter (cheap), Dodge 727 or A518 (46rh with O/D), and Dodge NP205 from a 89 thru 93 Dodge Cummins truck.
If it were me, I would use the Dodge components to do a CTD 6bt or 4bt conversion. They can be had much cheaper.
