is the play in and out or is the play where the tire turns some befor engauging the spiders ? on the spiders you want a max of .006 clearance between the spider shims and the carrier Ithink that that boils down to about 1/8in. of free play on the tread of a 32 in. tire , smaller tire =less play, bigger tire more.. well ya get it , in and out play is the shims on the outside of the axle bearing and I dont know that number off the top of my head but I can get it for ya ,and if ya want some spair shafts and hubs you can have them ( shafts and hubs are free you pay shipping I can ship internationally)

welcome to the forum koos. The wrong bearings can also cause play in and out play in the axle shaft.

STUCKA how can matching bearings and cups cause play if they are shimmed properly --not trying to start a debate but it dont seem logical or are you talkin about new bearings and old cups ?

Thanks fore the fast reply,
It is the in and out play that I mean.
I drive A old Volvo fore years and the play of the axel you cut just feel it when you draw the axel out and in. yes I am intrested in the spair shafs. Have to see what shipping cost.
Thanks Koos.

Hello mandoneer,
My jeeps runs A 350 buick. The company cut the old axel just like 1" after the smal ring on the axel where the bearing goos. The welded A new pice of chrom molydane steel an detension it.
Then the reworkt the bare steel. I pul the axel my self but dit not have shims on the left axel only on the right. like the chevy cars the have al the books fore how to but like buick and jeep there ar not many books about how to.
I am not so good in teknical englis. What is a races?? I have a new bearing and seals.
I live in the Netherlands.

the race is the cup the roller bearing sits into and it is put into the axle tube with the cone side facing out so the bearing seats into it I have seen some that have shims on the inside (carrier side )of the race but to my knoledge that isnt proper , the shims should be on the hub side of the bering between the retaining flange and the bering
