There is no cheap way.
I have done this many times, and one must package the thing so that it will not be damaged.
I have resolved myself to the fact I must make a crate out of 1 x 3 and 2 x 3's, wrap the whole thing in cardboard.
UPS managed to break the 79-85 plastic one even though it was crated.
Evidently the box got caught in the conveyor at a bend. It is not supposed to be moved that way due to the size of the package, but that's what happens.
You end up with "dimensional weight". This means you pay for about 80 pounds even though the final package will weigh less than 30 pounds.

greyhound shipping will do you up for way less than UPS. as far as breakage goes...insurance.

Tornado 230 is right about packaging. Some sort of crate is the way to go.

I bought one off ebay (grille shell and chrome muscle insert) when I got it was in a pieced together flimsy carboard box, it was bent up pretty bad when it arrived and I was really pi$$ed :banghead: that the seller didn't offer insurance on the sell. It was shipped via Fedex
But it is...buyer beware with ebay.

Thanks Guys...

I have shipped Greyhound before...they're pretty ruff...thinking about having a pro packager crate for shipping...then maybe GH...

Wood frame, 1/4" plywood sides and lots of bubble wrap...maybe?

I shipped one not long ago.The reciver found fedex was the way to go,But it's important to find there own office in your area it was'nt easy but it made a difference in the price charged by the numerous drop off agency's that add there own $'s

It may cost a bit more, but if you can box it yourself I've gone with UPS most of the time. I trust them more then the post office and should something go wrong you are insured.

I was thinking about FedEx only because I can pick-up at their airport depot...

Check the fine print on the insurance.
UPS is the lower of insured value or what you paid/charged for the item.
Would have to show documentation in the event of a loss.

If you make a loud enough stink they will cover anything. :)

Nope...ask me how I know...

Even if insured and electronic money trail (paypal) they still decide if the seller packaged the item accoring to their specs.

Only work with the shipper on the claim...absolutely will not inform receiver of anything.

Only way to truly get delicate item insured is have UPS store pack it and ship. Cost ...but well worth.
Even then UPS has list of stuff they exclude.

Fedex is not as cheap as greyhound, but cheaper than UPS on large items.

Bought a Boobie grill from AZ, shipped to VA with no issues on Greyhound, very resonable!!
