The 84 360 V8 is absolutely filthy, covered in grime a 1/16" inch thick. Got it running ok, but would really like to clean the engine and engine compartment up alot. Any advice on what type of engine cleaner to use? Simple green doesn't touch it.....
Thanks again.

GUNK. Foaming Engine Bright preferably. It clings to vertical surfaces better.

I have found nothing better than Easy-Off oven cleaner. Just spray it on, let it sit about 5 minutes and hose it off. It's what I use when I rebuild an engine.

Does the oven cleaner take the paint off also?
Thanks again.

COMET and elbow grease. Super cheap and cuts through all the grime without destroying the paintwork. Just have to rinse really well. Alex.

It has never removed the paint on the engine or the engine compartment when I used it. I would not wash the entire vehicle with it,though. It might discolor some paints.

Easy Off and aluminum don't play well though. I'd recommend some sort of gloves/eye protection when using it as well...it stings.

I use "Greased lighting" on everything with good results!

I have had great results with Purple Power. It also doesn't like aluminum if you let it sit on there too long. Also watch decals with it. It takes the graphics off some.

2x's on purple power. spray on rinse off with the water-hose, a bit of scrubbing with an old tire brush an or reapply maybe on the hard spots. works much like the oven cleaner but better.

I've now tried Purple Power, Simple Green, Greased Lightning and GUNK. The winner by a long shot for engine degreasing is definitely GUNK. I spray it on in a very generous fashion while I'm at the local car wash, then use the low pressure hose to wash it off. Repeat, repeat, repeat until it's all gone. Buy a few cans of the stuff and enjoy not having to clean up your driveway afterward.
I found Simple Green to work best for the general cleanup of the fender wells and valance. I could spray on a small amount and scrub it good then rinse or wipe it off.

Power washer.
Then use some sort of Gunk type cleaner.

Purple Power stripped the powdercoating off the inside of my parts washer, it's perfectly shiny on the bottom now.
