From another website:
that's the subject line of this email received from randy earlier:
"Signed the papers yesterday and Katemcy Rocks is officially in business again. more details as we begin to get open and work out the little details but we will be opening in February 2010. No dates have been set pending contact to all who sponsored events last year. The property is approximately same size as old Katemcy. located in Mason about 6 miles west of town off US hwy 29. Try to get out and begin getting camp grounds/trails laid out ect ASAP. Will follow with more pictures and news as it develops."

never been to katemcy rocks, but I need to get my group to go out there and ride the rocks, I think some of us might be a little hesitant though since most of our rigs are our daily drivers, but now that Spring Creek here in Houston is closing down, closet thing after that is General Sams, so we need to sxplore more parks out there

I think we have enough FSJ's in Texas to have a nice little 'pack' come together. I've been trying to find an excuse for a good campout/cookout too.
I've never crawled rocks. The Cherokee should be in wheelable shape early 2010. Maybe I'll stretch my rock legs and give it a go.
Michael,Will,Jeepskater,DMNTXN,Chevelleguy,Heimeke n,CarleysJeep,j20Brett,johnbaum,Elliott,myself.... ..probably several others I don't know of........and if Sambo and some New Messicans could make it out......

This is great news! I was sad to hear they were closing yet another area for people to go and enjoy. I hope the new agreement can satisfy all parties and they can keep it open indefinitely.

I would be down for a fullsize run. My club is trying to get in touch with the people running the place to help cut trails and clear a camp area in the spring.

If we get something going in spring 2010, I should have mine ready by then, and I could prolly also get a few guys from the Ranger forum out there. They used to go out there pretty regular before it closed.

What's the deal with Spring Creek closing? I couldn't find anything about it.
That's rather unfortunate since I was planning to test my junk there when I finish the build...it being fairly local and all. Ah well, I'm definitely glad Katemcy is back in business. Will have to make a run in the spring to meet some more local FSJers and break my heap in.

There is no date set yet on when it will be closing, but it will be closing at some point. Could be years or could be months. No one knows really.

I found this on houstonjeepforum.com
From Roland Bal:
There have been a lot of rumors about spring creek closing. This part of the rumor is true. However, the date as of right now is still unknown. August 2nd is NOT our last day, contrary to the rumor. There are proceedings under way having to do with the condemnation of our place, but like all governmental procedures, this takes time.
I have held off the announcement of this sad news until we have a date set for our last day, but it's time to let the cat out of the bag. Please disregard any rumors, and if you have any questions call me at 713 806 9410. Feel free to copy and paste this info to other websites so we can cut down on the confusion.
We are currently looking at new locations suitable for a new park. As things develop we will keep everyone abreast of the situation....
Thanks, Roland

Thanks for the info.Tree-huggers. Don't you know that offroading you 4x4 pollutes the streams, soil, and air. It also destroys Bald Eagle habitat.

Wicked, I have been asked that before. I am not sure, given the day and what went on, I would say it is possible I joined the ifsja on that day and just forgot that part. Now being said. I could have sworn I joined a year before. My son was born in September of 99, I got my wag in December of 98, I am sure I did not lurk for 2 years. Boy I have had that wag way too long....hmmmmm
Okay when the grand opening is set it is a done deal....lol

I just never saw any FSJ's up here in Dallas until I stumbled accross my 'ol '78 Waggy in the local Autotrader in August of '05. Real POS it turned out to be,but I loved every leak, squeak and rattle. It was all uphill (downhill, depending on who you ask:D ) from there. Didn't really even know of their existence. I was all in to typical Blazers,Broncos and Ramchargers before then......still am.......but FSJ's are so much ........better.
Anyway, I can't even remember how I came across this site. Might have been in the 1st issue of JP Magazine I picked up with Cappa's '73 J2000 "Hot Dog" sittin' on its lid at Top Truck Challenge.
Hey, Happy birthday to your son BTW. The big 10. Before you know it, he'll want to take dad's Wagoneer out for a spin........

I haven't heard any updates on it since that break of news. I'll keep an ear open though, and let this thread know when I do.
I know, I know, I need the junk to run. It's stranded on my land that's for sale, and the dang trees have grown up so much I can't even drive my truck to it! :banghead: I'll borrow a tractor and get it to my house soon, and then start the repairs.
Then next Spring I'll be ready for the New Katemcy Run. :D
