Hey guys,

One of my hearter hoses is leaking right were it enters the heater core.

I went to Pep Boys and asked them for a replacement part and they said it was 51.00 bucks......Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley!!

I then saw a rack that said heater hoses 1.29 a foot!?!?!?

What is the difference between the 51.00 and the 1.29/foot hoses???

Any and all advise is much appreciated.

Thank you...

Yeesh. No difference as far as I know...I just get the Goodyear ones in plastic bags at Kragen. I don't recall the sizes though, but last time I bought them they were pretty cheap. :)

Bulk hose no problem, I think 1/2" one 5/8" on the other.

just go to advance or auto zone and get heater hose like 5 bucks in a bag in the electric fans and oil cooler section does the trick.

There are different qualities of hose.
The expensive stuff is silicone rubber composition, designed for durability.
I buy the regular quality hose and change it every few years whether it needs it or not.
You will find the same thing with gas hose. Some designed for regular systems, some designed for higher pressure fuel injection systems. There is the same difference in price per foot.

Was the salesperson talking about the heater core, when you were talking about leaking at the heater core.

That's what I was thinking is maybe that is a heater core price.

The hose is cheap in bulk like mentioned before. I was thinking they were 5/8" and 3/4"..

I agree with the board. No difference with what I can tell. Also look at it this way, standard heater hose off the rack will be better than what you're replacing. Just make sure that it's hot service compatible and you should be good to go. I think I got both of mine off the Carquest roll for about $12.00.

You didn't mention what you are driving but for reference I looked up a '84 Grand Wagoneer (V-8) in the Gates catalog.

Intake manifold to heater core: 32" of 5/8" heater hose.
Heater core to water pump: 38" of 3/4" heater hose.

Get 4' of each and cut to fit.

They quoted you the heater core. I looked it up at O'Reilly's, $45.99.
