So here is the short story:

I came home for my 2 week r&r leave from a deployement to Iraq to a completely rust free 89 GW. Well With the knowledge I had here I headed to the junkyard with a week of leave remaining. There was only one FSJ there and you guessed it-Z code Cherokee and a confirmed 401 sitting in there. Since it was just me I though it over and the Idea of it being scrapped before I redeployed was too much so I went back on my second to last day of leave by myself to pull it. Well after getting it 95% free i ran out of time and had to head home, as spending my last day before heading back overseas in a junkyard probably would not have gone over too well with the wife.;)

So if any of you are interested there is a 401 ready for the taking at the budget pull-a-part outside of Ft. Hood TX. They qouted me $50 for a stripped block up to $280 for the engine and all the attachments:D . If you go it is in a 4-door cherokee with the cargo area chopped and a terrible home done lime greenish camo paintjob. There is no longer a grill, radiator, or fron sheetmetal cause i removed all that but if you look closely it is there!

Thanks for your service!

This is a sad story but totally understand your logic in not going back to the yard. I hope someone can nab that puppy!

Here are some dumb questions:

What is Z code?

Will this work with a T 400?

Is it difficult to remove an engine? LOL

Having never removed or installed an engine, and no friends who would know how to help or would help, is this something I could do being only marginally mechanically inclined, yet desperate to save some dough?

Wish I lived nearby , I might try to organize a few guys to pull that engine . Doesn't sound like much work or time to give back to someone sacrificing so much for us everyday .

What was the name of the salvage yard? Do you have an address or ph #?
