Sure it will work but for about a $1/ft just replace it and stick the copper pipe and clamps in your truck somewhere for a future emergency!

oh that one.trine to remember the way to do that one. the one down by the alternator, right? the thing to do is buy a piece a foot longer than what you have. also 2 new clamps. you've got to get a clear field. remove stuff thats in the way.lemmee go take a peek at mine. yup, looks like the alternator bracket, the three cornered one has to be removed. do your self a favor and disco the ground at the battery before proceding.my other advice is to use a 5/16 socket on a nut driver to work the clamps.the socket is alot easier to work in tight situations than a screwdriver. mending a hose is a good emergency type repair. best to fix it though, the hose will just fail again, often at the worst time.

No, it's not just you, it's a PITA!

As I'm remembering from my rebuild a few years ago, I'm thinking the heater fitting on the water pump is 3/4", the fitting on the heater core is 5/8"? maybe. If you'll use 3/4" heater hose from the water pump, and adapt it down to 5/8" at some point along the hose that's practical, maybe pushing that 3/4" onto the water pump won't be such a **** hassle. Most parts stores have the reducer needed. Just a thought.
Yeah, I remember. It was a bugger to get on. AMC musta used a moulded hose on that application.
