We just bought a bunch of Detroit EZ Lockers at a very discounted price. These are 'lunchbox' style lockers that drop in and replace your spider gears.

AMC 20:

IFSJA Price $145 including shipping in the US

Dana 44:

IFSJA Price $120 including shipping in the US

Note, some of these are boxed up as Genuine Gear Quik-Lok's but they are the same thing. Detroit made these for Genuine.

Thanks!

The last two sets of Detroit EZ Lockers that we bought on clearance were both total crap.

We could never get them to work correctly (with several different shims, and each set up within specs) and ended up pulling them both out and replacing them with Aussie Lockers. The EZ Lockers would pop and snap and almost whip ya off the road. Had them in and out so many times that we could do it in our sleep.

Hopefully for BJ's these are a better batch than what we purchased.

I'm not trying to cut your sale here, however...

The Detroit EZ is the only one of that type I would NEVER use.

Here's a tip for the end user: They come with a one year warranty and less of a lifespan.

The only 'lunchbox' style locker that I've seen that actually broke. My neighbor was running one in the rear of his '78 Cherokee D44 on 34" LTBs. It lasted two runs to URE and as little as 500 miles. They did not stand behind it because he had purchased it over a year before it broke.

This price is right tho'. Maybe running it in the front would be different?

Hmmm, I currently dont have anything to put them in, but I am temped to buy a pair since I am sure I could use them at some point... Your not offering a deeper discount for two or more are you??? ;)

I thought these were advertised as limited to 33" tires...

hmmm.... now i'm all scared! i've heard a lot of good things about detroit's products! i'm guessing these bad boys are worse than lockrites? i've had a lockrite in my xj for a couple years and have nothing but good things to say about it. i would rather have an open diff than a locker that's gonna f up on me....

Actually... 32" tires...

Quote from the Detroit EZ Locker instruction manual..

"Distribute the load evenly side-to-side; do not exceed the vehicle's
rated payload capacity; keep the diameter of the tires equal (max
diameter 32 inches). Failure to observe these measures can create a
difference in side-to-side wheel speed which can cause the vehicle to
pull to one side."

And, for what its worth, the legendary Detroit no slip also only comes with a one year warranty...

BTW, I have no experience with the ez locker, but I wouldnt be afraid to run one. When you exceed the limits of a product, you shouldnt be surprised when it fails...

I don't really know I never have bought one.
But a 34x10.50 isn't much worse than a 33x12.50 when you consider the contact patch when aired down.

Here's a quote from a site I found when I googled the EZ + review.

http://www.offroaders.com/tech/detroit-ez-locker.htm

Their strength is moderate to less than moderate and for the most part support what seems to be up to a 33" tires and a mild amount of abuse before encountering problems and damage. Another disadvantage to a drop-in locker is that some have a more severe locking and unlocking feel over a full carrier locker. For this reason some drop-in locker manufacturers incorporate dampening mechanisms to reduce the backlash and harsh engagement / disengagement creating a smoother operating locker. For many people they are a good candidate for a first "economy" locker on vehicles that are mildly modified with slightly oversized tires. These units are not recommended for applications with high horsepower or large tires that can put increased stress on the locker and stock carrier.

I wouldn't consider a stock 360 w/4v carb and 34s to be overkill.

And they claim to compete with the Lock Right. The can't hold a candle to the Lock Right.

maybe not for me, then.... i'm currently running 32's, but i don't want to worry about stuff when i go to 35's or larger.

Guess my Ez Locker will continue to gather dust. Any chance it'll fit in a dana 35? Could be cool in my volvo :D

I have heard the bad press on these but most of the guys that I hear it from bought a crappy toyota truck, stuffed some 38's on it and put an EZ Locker in it and wondered why it didn't live.

I have had one of these in an GM 10 Bolt with 33's and it worked great and lived through over a year of my abuse.

I did tons of research a few years ago when I was looking for a lunchbox locker. I was horrified by all the bad reviews and experiences of the EZ locker. I went with an Aussie and haven't looked back. Great locker, you REALLY can't tell that it's even there. :)

So to answer your question, thanks but no thanks.

Sure, they will both fit in a flat rate box, so I could knock $20 off of 2.

I busted an Aussie in the rear a couple of years ago. I ended up putting a
Detroit Soft Locker. Wish I just saved up the first time for the real deal. If I add up the Detroit and the Ausie, I could have bought an ARB!
