Now that I've had my Grand Wagoneer for 3 weeks I have discovered a few issues

1) I've had my tires rotated and balanced twice but it still has a vibration that feels like its out of balance. When I got it balanced the second time yesterday the guy said the tires where way out of balance, even though I had just had it done 2 weeks ago. I get on the highway yesterday and it feels like the back end is going to shake loose at high speeds. Off the highway it feels much better.

2) When I push on the brakes the running lights come on and the stereo and clock lights fade like the headlights are on. Also my cruise will not work when the headlights are on. Ground wire? I have noticed what appears to be a ground wire coming from the battery to the body has come apart.

3) What size are the speakers in a 86 Grand Wagoneer? I have been told 5 1/2 and 6 1/2. The previous owner put two HUGE home speakers in the back and I want to get rid of those.

4) Will JB Weld work on radiators? I had my radiator repaired but I don't know how long that will last. I may need a new one but cant afford that right now.

5) When replacing the flex track on one of the back seat windows, do you need to take off not only the door interior but also the metal plate? Or can you replace it working through the holes in the metal plate?

I guess that's it, any info is greatly appreciated.

U-joints could be the culpret on the vibration. It sounds like someone has got under the dash and tried to wire something though they didn't have a clue how to fix what they did. Brake wires are usually just two wires off the brake pedal but they are tied to the turn signals in the column. Find you a good wiring diagram (which are usually color coded) and it should be easy to repair.

I went through tire balancing issues and trial and error balancing techniques, until I discovered the real problem...a slightly bent rear axle tube on the AMC-20 rear axle.

Searched high and wide for a tube and ended up buying a 1978 J-20 Dana 60 rear axle that was rebuilt to specs with 4.11 gears and new brakes, drums hardware, new gears, diffs, Timkein bearings...the whole nine yards for $1100 dollars.

All in all I an satisfied with the results, although I opted to ge with the 8-Lug hubs for the Dana 44 front axle also.

Moral of this story is be sure your axle tubes have not been altered by gung-ho previous owners.

There is a Hunter GSP 9700 balancer that will absoutely get your tires balanced or tell you the technical reason why they cannot be balanced, about $20 dollars per wheel all told.
