The guys at napa told me i needed a "special kit" to remove the pully from my p/s pump, and that a regular pully puller wouldnt do the job without damaging the pully. Is this correct info, or are they just trying to sell me a $85 "special kit" (8 pc.) I left there cussin!

Go to Autozone with the old and new PS pumps. They will do it right there for you. Take the pulley off the old one and put it one the new one. Just make sure they use the right puller or they'll warp the pulley (ask me how I know).

Or you could just borrow the tool. The have tons of free loaners. You just let them authorize a charge on your credit card for the cost of the tool. When you bring the tool back, they throw away the charge slip.

Be carefull with the new pump, it comes with a prime in it, try not to dump it out, which is easy when you are trying to get the darn pully off while holding the odd shaped pump between your shoes while sitting on the ground in a pool of PS fluid in the blazing hot sun.

I did (dump the prime). The new pump failed in 1.3456 seconds after firing it up. Sounded like WW III.

As I recall, adding fluid and turning the pulley backwards primes it up, again.

Be sure to replace at least the low presure hose. I would do both. I relaced the low side. The high side went out 2 weeks later. The low hose was fairly cheap, and the high was as well.

I found that having the front tires up in the air while bleeding the pump REALLY helped...I found this out the hard way, like most of us...

Be aware, before you go bending your pulley, the only place to find a replacement is the boneyard, then you'll be back to square one all over again.....phil

thanks for the insight!
I'm pretty sure my new puller will pull the pully from the center "lip"

well the puller didnt get the pully off  so as advised, i took the whole pump to a local shop and had it removed fro free(Tipped the kid $10)then went back to sears to return the $29 puller that didnt fit onto the center of the pully.
thanks for all the wonderful advice
