I saw in the performance upgrades post that a chrysler h/p ig. mod is listed. I saw the price on it and was wondering how it rates compared to the MSD 6A? Is it about the same or not as good?

Not as good.
The standard orange box is decent. The chrome box doesn't hold up too well, and the Gold box...well they tell you its only for 2000 - 8000 rpm uses or something on that order. It won't last either except for short runs (like 1/4 mile)

None are as good as an MSD 6 series in the following sense.
Essentially they are an ECU triggered by a magnetic distributor. The spark energy developed is from the coil alone. With an MSD, the control module also builds a charge up (like the coil in a normal system). This produces elecrical energy much higher than the normal sytem and allows the spark plu gap to be openned up to 045 or more. .In addition, the MSD fires 6 times IIRC at lower rpm and 2 times at higher rpm. You have to set the timing back a wee bit in most cases with the MSD. The multiple firing almost guarentees good combustion.

Bottom line. The Chrysler ECU does basically what the Duraspark does. It is pretty cheap, and Standard auto makes a generic one that plugs right into the Chryco harness plug.
