Just wondering if anyone has switched back to manual brakes on their rig? I have power drums now which I will be switching over to front discs as soon as I can get the parts together and am thinking of tossing out the booster for various reasons. Anyone done this yet and are they happy with it? tongue.gif

When the engine dies on startup and you have no vaccum in the reservoir... it is like a freaky ride... downhill, you can be standing on the brake pedal and nothing seems to slow down

Nice pict..... i have the same but as a 74

I actually have the drums adjusted up good but when the truck is running the pedal just has alot of travel and no real feel to it. If its not running the brakes actually have some feel to them so I was thinking about getting rid of the booster. I don't really like power brakes anyway on most cars but I'm kinda weird that way. I prefer things simple with as little as possible to break on me out in the middle of nowhere.

Why don't you try an experiment? Just disconnect the vacume supply hose and test the brakes out in an open area?

My jeep came with manual brakes. Disconnecting the vacuum booster for the power brakes isnt the same as having manual brakes.

The master cylinder is different. The manual brake master is design to apply mo braking force with less pedal effort.

I like my manual brakes. They work fine for me.
