I just called the local Jeep dealer about the weather strip seal thats runs around the door well on the body of the car. The stuff that seals the door when it is shut. The quoted me about $100 per door!!! Can this be right? I remember someone saying at one time that they got it for about $9 per door!

Can anyone shed light?

Sorry to say, but that price is probably pretty close to right. I would try Whitney and some of the other mail order places. They usually have a universal type strip that is sold by the foot. Hope this helps some.

I tried JCW 'universal' type, it did not fit. You could try their different specific types (there are lots), but this would be a long trial and error process (they will send you samples). I have priced OEM from Specialty Jeep Parts for $75 each (front doors); I think I'll bite the bullet and get it.

Checked on the "window" weatherstripping a couple weeks ago for the J10s...this is the stripping that goes INSIDE the metal and when you roll the window up, it should seal close then. 4 parts essentially....top, bottom, and each side.

Took the dealer(yes, Jeep) parts guy a good half hour to look the stuff up(on fiche and then on the computer to get pricing). I don't think he thought it was very amusing(especially when I didn't actually end up buying anything!).

I don't have the list he wrote down handy, but what it came down to was about $10-25 for EACH part....that would be about 4 parts PER window(top/back, front, and two part for the bottom-inner and outer) x 2(for both windows)! On top of that, he said they would have to "special order" the couple(yes only a couple) of them that actually showed up as available....and he said that showed NATIONWIDE! Some were not even available by his info. Yikes!

Needless to say, I left with no new weatherstripping and know that my next yard visit will include scouting for good weatherstripping donors. One advantage...it should be cheaper.....I sure hope I can get good enough and adhere them well enough when I do go about it....anybody got experience there?

Anyway....$400, at $100 per door, doesn't sound THAT out of line from a dealer......not that it's "nice" to hear....but I'm not surprised. I would agree with the replies about checking elsewhere......I don't think you could do much worse than that price range.

We need an "LMC"(Long Motor Corp) specialty catalog for FSJs as they have for Ford/Chevies......would help a LOT! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Sorry I don't have good news....
Take care...

Specialty Jeep has all the stuff. I think when I priced it, the cost for ALL weatherstripping (except windshield) was around $300. They're great guys, and talking with them on the phone is like shooting the breeze on the porch of an old country store--jokes and all. I was craning my neck looking for Sheriff Taylor and Floyd the barber.

McMaster Carr sells the stuff by the foot.

When there sight loads up do a search for Compression Door Gaskets. Page 2979.

This is where I plan to get some this summer
to redo mine. Some tin snipping on the gripper part to make the corners look factory, but not cutting the foam should work.
