Hi I had a guy bring a 1989 Wagoneer to me for repair,I thin:banghead: k there was only a small number of these models released in Australia, so parts are nill for them over here.this Jeep has the 360 motor and 727 tranny,I dont know what the transfer case is as it is totaly blown to peices, with the id tag gone,it is a part time full time case I think, can any body tell me what case it is? and is it the same case as the Jeep XJ part time full time case? I beleive you can bolt the NP 208 out of a earlier Jeep with a 727 tranny , if so what is neaded to swap over, can any one help me please, Thanks Joey

It was an NP229 and an earlier NP208J is a direct bolt up. The XJ case is a NP242 and will bolt up but might not be clocked correctly or seal properly due to input shaft differences.

The very early XJ's also used 229's but they are hard to find too.
Didn't know they even built Wags in OZ, but OZ did build Cherokees for at least a year longer than in the US. You might get lucky and find a donor 229 from an 83 or 84 Cherokee?
