I've ordered my locker, install kit and ring & pinion (4.10). I'm thinking that since I'll have it on the bench, I should upgrade the axle shaft while I'm at it. Has anyone used a higher grade axle shaft on their Dana 44 rear rebuild? Possibly a Strange or Currie. I sure would like to prolong the length of time before I have to tear into this thing again.

Thanks Scotty! After an entire morning of calling axle manufacturers, I've concluded the GW D44 doesn't have a manufactured upgrade. I found a place in Portland, OR (Dutchman) that will make a heavy duty alloy axle shaft for $400 (if I ship them my old), but I think I'll stick with the stock Dana. My locker and gears arrived today!!! :D :D :D

Moser can make you axle too but will also be costly. Not sure what kind of axle can be made but here's their website
