Guys, Ive got one for you today that Ive never dealt with before, and Ive got my fingers crossed that somebody may have a clue, because Im lost without a map.

Heres the deal:

When I received my '64 J200 off the transport truck, the PO called me to tell me he had some er.."problems" getting the truck running and tried to swap out the ignition to get the rig loaded up. Well, he either didnt finish the job or got confused along the way and the J200 had to be dead rolled up onto the flatbed (Transport Guy was not happy about this and lmk).

So, now that Ive finally got the J200 moved from the farm to my yard, I see that Mr. PO tried to reinstall the "old" switch and left the "new" switch on the floorboard for me to find.

This guy must have been in a panic, because the wiring is just hacked and frayed left and right, and I have no clue as to what is supposed to go where (and cant trust HIS work because he obviously failed and made a big mess on his way out.)

Heres the way it sits now, and with what I suspect are the pin designations, based on whats printed on the "new" ignition switch (the old one is totally illegible).

Now, bring on the pics...

and now the attempted "replacement" switch I found on the floor:

Suggestions, thoughts, experiences, observations....I'll take whatever you've got!

No real experience on this but I'll take an educated guess that ST is for the blue wire to the starter solenoid, IGN is for normal ign on use, ACC is when you turn it backwards. BATT is constant. Imagine you could check the wiring diagrams to figure out the proper color to match up to under the dash. Or proper pin out on the fuse block.

Consider my response an "observation." As Ive never been in the wiring of the ign switch.

I've been going through the same experience with mine. It looks like your pinouts are right. I just rewired the entire ignition circuit yesterday and will see if she starts today.

I used 12ga wire for the batt connection and some really high-quality 14ga for the start and ignition.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Just as a precaution you might want to rig up a inline fuse for the battery wire going to the switch to use until you get it figured out. Nothing worse than turning the switch and seeing smoke roll from under the dash. :banghead:

Thanks for all yer help, Fellas...its been a hot and muggy past 2 days of laying on my back (no shade) and getting eaten by flies trying to get this mess sorted out, and your words of advice helped me from losing all sanity in the midst of heat stroke and probable long term brain damage.

But on the upshot, we've got a positive development.

When I got home tonight, I finally broke down and called a buddy of mine's son who lives on the other side of town, and he was a good enough sort to come over to my place after he closed his "Car Audio" shop to come by with his strippers and testing meter free of charge.

Fellas, its times like this that Im reminded to be grateful for living in a small town (not just because I can pile up as many old wrecks on my property as I can fit), where you can call a fella and he'll gladly send his son over to give you a hand after hours free of charge.

Well, the young fella went to work and just said, "no problem" and 5 minutes later the 360 was turning. Dint get full ignition, as Im now encountering a fuel problem at some point, but Im just grateful to be THIS far down the road now. Fuel delivery I can deal with...electrical...not so much.

So heres how it went, and all you fellas with early J-Trucks, grab a pen and take notes.

After pulling the ignition switch out and yanking the wires, heres what you need to do if you want to start 'er up and you've got no key.

First, the essentials:

What youre going to want to do is strip back a short section of the insulating wire jacket to provide contact surfaces.

Next, youre going to gang together the CONSTANT (red w/white), IGN (light green) and ACC (green w/white).

Next, with a section of the jacket stripped back on the STARTER (light blue), make direct contact with the above 3 wires that have been ganged together.

(Use a short section of spare wire between the STARTER wire and the ganged wires if you need more length or uncomfortable.)

Adjust the choke and you should be ready to rock AND roll, now!!!

Heres a copy of the scribbled out note he left me:

Remember to use the above strictly for the powers of GOOD and not evil, as I know you fellas are the good sort, anyway.

Besides any punk that thinks he can just fire up a 40 year old FSJ and drive away care free is in for the surprise of his life anyway when he only manages to get no further than 50 feet down the drive.

Your pal,
