I haven't been able to find a definitave answer to this question. I have the stock wheels on my '85 GW. I know they are 15" wheels but I don't know how wide they are. Are they 15x6? 15x7? I'm running 235/75R15 tires and that's about the range for the rims according to the tire makers.

Stock Alum. rims should be 15"x7"~ Can fit a 10.5" wide tire OK.

BTW, no question is dumb, I mean how else ya gonna learn. :D

Yeah, but I figure I should be able to find this somewhere without having to ask...

Thanks for the info.

The size of any rim should be stamped on the backside of the rim. smile.gif

That I did not know. Thanks for the tip.

It's a little frustrating, having a lot of book knowledge about working on vehicles but not having a lot of practical experience. I know all the details about how a carburetor works but don't have any idea what settings for anything should be because I've never worked on one, much less installed or tuned one.

The good thing is that there are a few people in my 4x4 club that are helping me learn the practical side of automotive maintenance. smile.gif

Well, owning an FSJ is a sure cure for lack of hands-on knowledge! You'll have plenty of opportunity to find out exactly how things work, when you start fixing the things that don't! And, when (not if) you screw something up the first time, you'll know better the next time. smile.gif

Here's a more-or-less comprehensive list of things that I have NOT unbolted, modified and/or replaced on my Cherokee:

* Springs
* Rear axle shafts
* Steering Box
* Gas tank
* Some glass
* the antenna

I have had the "opportunity" to redo everything else, voluntarily or not.

So stop reading this and get to work!!! ;)

You can always put a straight piece of wood across the rim and stick a tape measure thru and measure accross another piece of wood accross the other side..

Having done car stereo work before, I decided to tackle the interior first. I know how to pull panels apart and reassemble everything. Besides, all the weather stripping is shot so I need to replace it before I can take it out into the rain. I have one door apart and the other three in the stages of being taken apart. It's a lot more fun with broken power window parts. Really. It is. :rolleyes:

The tailgate was a nightmare of hacked together wiring that will be put back together as soon as the parts get here.

I have a 4 day weekend starting tomorrow. I'm planning on spending most of the weekend in the garage. The only break I'm planning is a couple hours of playing in the mud in my XJ. :D All work and no play after all...

I should have the doors fixed soon, then I'm going to start under the hood. It runs but I need a new battery and I need to fix the rough idle. Once that is going I may even try to get it to pass inspection. Then I start in on the leaking power steering hose and the leaking rear main seal. Once I get all that fixed, I'm sure I'll find another problem.

I love this Jeep. :D
