I'm thinking about 235/85-16s, which measure about 32" tall. I'm running stock springs. Will the height be an issue? I've got 225/75-16s now, and they look too small.
Measuring with a tape measure doesn't show any issues. Just wondering what others are running on a stock J truck.

That's what I got on my 82 plow truck, had 7.50x16 before that, more or less the same size, on my 87 I have 265/75R16, I think there would be room for 285's maybe 315's.

there are several people running 33's on stock j trucks. you could go even bigger with some trimming.

I don't know the actual spring rate on stock J20's but every one I've seen seemed to sit an inch or two higher stock than the J10's I've seen even with aged springs, and J10's/Widetrack Cherokees can fit 31's with plenty of room
I would think you're good to go
If your stock body bushings aren't in good shape, you might consider replacing them with new poly bushings and going ahead with a small 1" body lift to give you a bit extra clearance if you think you need it
Also, BJ's sells these 1" lift front shackles for $75 http://www.bjsoffroad.com/CartGenie/prod-470.htm
You could install a 1.5" rear add-a-leaf in both spring packs to level it out

I think I'll give the 235/85-16s a shot. I don't plan on lifting my truck for a year or two.

Go for it- 235-85-R16's are tall but skinny, shouldn't have any rubbing probs. got 31's on a 78 J10 with no rubbing-could def do another inch

I just ordered 5 235/85-16s. Interco Truxs MT. Of course, I'll post pics when I get them on.

You won't have any issues running that size tire on your J-20. Look forward to seeing the pic's.

That's why I put them on my plow truck, I got 2 treawrights for the rear last fall, I need to get 2 more before the end of aug when the sale for their new site launch is over.

33 x 12.5 on my stock J20.
Course I haven't really had much of a load on it yet, but there's a few inches of clearance.
I'm running 33's on my J4000; little rub on front fender lip when on twisty trail. On highway they're stiffer and allow more road jostling.

I run 33's on my stock 2000. Had to bend in the fender lip so the tires don't catch in a big flex situation, and now it's fine:thumbsup:

Got my tires mounted!
I ordered Interco Trxus MTs, 235/85-16, from summit racing. They were $150 each, and an extra $10 for shipping. They are class E tires, and rated for 3,042 lbs @ 80 psi. I'm running them at 39 psi right now and they ride great for a class E tire. Very quiet too. They are a perfect fit on the 16x6 steel Dodge junkyard rims I have.

The 34's on my J10 rub offroad with a 6" lift. But for street driving, you can get away with 33's on stock suspension. 32's would fit a bit better.
