Finally after close to 2 years I have paint on the Cherokee! We started spraying at 10:00 this morning and by 7:30 tonight it's layered with one gallon of GM Black, a half gallon of Toyota Blue, and 2 gallons of clear. This puppy is ready for some serious polishing! WOO-HOO!

Thanks for all the comments! It all depends on what you are wanting as for a finished job. If you are satisfied with the orange peel look that paint has after it's sprayed then you do use less materials. My daughter picked out the colors and the stripe so I knew I would have to go heavy on the clear to cover the stripe completely plus once the watersanding and buffing is completed I want to see Flys slide off the hood when they try to land on it. :D

Awesome job. Cool colors. At what point did you apply the stripe?

Sprayed entire truck with black then after 1 hour taped it up and sprayed blue. After another hour passes we removed all tape and applied pinstripe. It worked great on the straight lines but at the front of the hood and on the rear it tried to raise in a few places along the curves. It took about 3 light sprays of clearcoat along the stripe to convince it to stay down or else.

Gimme a little time for my hair to go back to it's naturally color. I stopped at a local store to grab a Diet Coke and ran into a group of Gothic kids that think I'm their leader now. :banghead:

Well i wont be back from Iraq until march at the earliest...think that will be enough time lol I am only half serious I have been toying with the idea of getting it painted but I have larger desire to finish the upgrades in the drivetrain I want.

Found out today there is a new type of wet sand DA paper that takes all the elbow work out of wet sanding. Just back the air pressure down on the DA and go to work. They say you can wet sand a complete vehicle in half the time.

Yep! She started kindergarden last week and had to tell all her friends today her Jeep is now painted. One asked if it was a Barbie Jeep and she said "Nope it's a full grown Jeep". :D

I freakin' love your kids response !

From the mouths of babes...:)

Note - with that new power sander setup.. be very, and I mean very careful around ridges / edges / corners.
A power sander/buffer can cut through several layers of paint in an instant of in-attention.

Of course, you probably already knew this, but wanted to make sure. It's obvious somebody can paint !

Oh, yea ! Me likey very much !

You did a great job, and saved yourself a ton of money, not to mention the bragging rights!:dancingbanana:

Unless I missed it somewhere, could you tell us about what brand of paints you used, what type of gun, etc.

I'll be painting in a while, and like to hear what other successful people have used to get the job done. Thanks.

Window tinting has been going 7 days a week since paint was sprayed. I've got one more law enforcement agency that has new cars that need tinting and if all goes well that will be finished by Wednesday afternoon. We did just a few spots with the buffer the week after it was painted and it turned out NICE! I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can have it slicked and ready to be put back together by a week from Friday.
