I have a story for all the Wagoneer lovers out there. About ten years ago I bought an '87 Waggy. I'm here in New England so she had the usual rust issues as well as a tired 360 and everything that goes with it. Over the years I restored it bit by bit until pretty much everything under the hood was new and all the various problems had been taken care of. We used it to go to the mountains to snowboard and when the weather here in Maine got nasty, wich is fairley often during our long winters. About three years ago all the kids had grown and left so my wife and I got rid of the house and put the truck up in storage at a friends place where it spent some of the time garaged and the rest outdoors on his front lawn. Tried to sell it a few time without success and finally decided to give it to my son, who now lives in Colorado. I got the Waggy, fixed everything that needed fixing, and spent about ten days running it around town to work out any of the bugs. This old truck hadn't been on the road for three years and it was now going to be asked to make a 2200 mile trip, so I was a bit nervous. My son and a friend of his flew out here to Maine from Colorado, and this last Tuesday they packed it up and set out. The 22 year old Waggy, with an AMC 360, Edelbrock intake and 4bbl. carb (no emmisions) went 2200 miles in a little over 48 hours, used one quart of oil, got 14.5 (YES! 14.5) a gallon at an average speed of 75mph and never gave them a bit of trouble. Just unreal. What a great old truck. Thanks.:)

Cool! It's good to have Jeeps coming into Colorado instead of leaving. *AHEM*:D

I'm not really surprised... because, I bought my '89 in July and the 65,000 original miles just went up another 1600 on my trip from ND to SC. My mileage varied from 11.5 to 15.5 mpg with an average of right around 14.5. I'm so confident in the truck that I'm making a round trip in it in three weeks. This truck averaged 3200 miles per year the first 20, and I'm planning to put that many on it in 10 days. Guess I'm going to have to park it for a year and a half when I get back to keep the average the same.

Bruce:
Thanks for the story. I'm sure that you and your son know that Maine and Colorado share not a few genes, and that these goofy old Jeeps well fit these goofy old places. Have your son give us a holler -- bet there are things we can show him up here that he ain't seen yet.

Thanks guys. I'll get him on board right off. I'm just happy to see that old truck go to a place with no salt, ice, and endless water. She should enjoy her golden years in style now. Been out to Colorado twice visiting and love the place. He's in Ft. Collins and quite happy. Thanks again.
