Hey Guys, I need help with a stupid mistake. I removed my rear drive shaft of my '85 GW last night, so I could take it to a shop and have the U-joints replaced. I marked the rear shaft, but did not do the front, through complete stupidity. My question is how bad did I mess up? I know I can get the back on right, but is there any other way to make sure the front is lined up right? Or do I just have to put it on and see if it vibrates because it is 180 degrees out? I have read all the posts I could find on driveshafts and I think that is the answer, but then I also read where it doesn't matter. I also gather that the more important alignment is if they replace the stub and spline, which I might need done also. The shop is going to check it out. I just hope that ain't too much $$$$. Thanks for your help guys, I am learning an awful lot on here. smile.gif

You didnt mess up... you only need to worry about it if you separate it at the splines...

yep, you should be able to slap it up in there.

Might want to invest in a 3 in 1 tool from Harbor freight for around $50... does balljoints, Ujoints and other neat stuff... then you can do it yourself and save a buttload of cash on labor costs...

ujoints only take about 30 minutes tops

Thanks guys, you all made me feel better. The shop I took it to is only charging me $6.00 per joint to change them, so I figuered it was worth the money not to have to do it myself. But then again we will see. I can see them coming back and saying, "we had to rebuild this whole shaft it will cost you 500.00" but I hope not, I have a friend that recommended them and said they were alright.
