Aftermarket stereo - Metra shaft conversion kit???

I am looking to install an aftermarket stereo in my 82 Wag, but I don't want to cut the beautiful metal of the dash to make a DIN-sized stereo fit.

Has anyone used a Metra installation kit in their Wag or Chero? I'd like to know which kit I need and how the installation went.

You either have to cut the metal or use an underdash housing. There isn't enough room in the glove box without having depth issues. I have cut the dash by cutting straight lines above and below the shaft holes and then bent the metal to allow for factory re-install by bending the metal back. Either way it's not to difficult. The underdash housing kinda sucks. IMHO.

Cool. I thought of cutting the dash, but I didn't think of bending the "tabs" back. Pretty good idea. Do you have any pics? Does the metal bend close to a right angle or is there a lot of curvature?

It'll bend pretty close. Just go for it, you won't mess it up.
