Which trans is the column shift, a T89?

I'd say you'll have to find a 232/T90 truck and take the parts you need from that. I'd guess that's the only source for an AMC I6 to T90 bellhousing, and that the T89 and T90 would have the same bellhousing pattern and clutch setup.

Most of the 230s that were converted went to the SBC (which yu probably know). The same adapter will allow you to use the 230/250 Chevy 6 if you must have an I6 - probably a quicker and easier swap.

Does your truck have a D20? Then you could take the 258/T15/D20 complete from a 72-79 FSJ (like my truck) and you'd have a floor shift instead of a column shift.

I'm not an expert on this particular swap, but somebody will chime in if I'm way off.

I have anothe 230 engine tranny and case. Yes I have the D20 transfer case on both setups. But the spare engine i have has a 4 speed floor shifter. Not sure which one it is but it is bolted upto the 230 and was a running moving truck when I stripped it. Thanks for the info.
