Are you visiting Los Angeles or Louisiana... ?
In Los Angeles there are quite a few off-road shops but it depends what you are looking for.
If its engine stuff, Performance Automotive Wherehouse is your best bet.
For off-road stuff, almost nobody will stock it, most stuff is special order only but you can try 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers, they have access to the most brands but their product knowledge on FSJ's kinda sucks...
Oh... BTW,
Welcome to the board...

thanks for the response - yeh, i will be in los angeles.
the parts i require most are just the cosmetic things > badges, the little plastic bits that secure the sunshades to the roofliner, new amc jeep logo mud flaps etc. - so someone how has these little things laying around is the person i'd love to go & see.
my car is in superb mechanical condition, its just some little visual things id like to attend to thats all.
any help is really appreciated - thanks all.

For the little stuff like you are looking for no one is going to stock that stuff on the shelf unless it has been hiding in the back of a dealer's part warehouse for 20 years or so. You might have better luck posting up with your exact needs in the wanted forum. Or you may be able to locate some of that on e-bay.

i am really keen to get my hands on:
- amc jeep logo mud flaps - the longer version
- amc jeep badge for left side of tailgate
- black plastic rear licence plate light cover with "cherokee" written in silver
- plastic tid bits that help secure the sun shades to each corner of roof liner
kinda simple stuff really, but cant locate them! & i know its all out there somewhere.. gotta be!! i remeber once when i was in l.a. previously i was sent to a place that had stuff for my t.j. - it was like a supermarket, isnt there some place like this for older jeeps?

isnt there some place like this for older jeeps?I got one of these, but it is chrome. so that probably does not help you very much. Supermarket for the FSJ's? the closest thing would be BJ's offroad. BJ's (http://www.bjsoffroad.com/) He sells alot of OEM parts and other odds and ends for our rigs. Our main sources for parts are junkyards and those of us that haul home junkers and cut them up for fun  and profit (tiny).

ditto Gwamp
Try bjsoffroad and keep a close eye on ebay.
Cause I am in the same boat as you are.
Finding some parts can be difficult. If you find any great sources for this kind of stuff let me/us know.
LA I would check boneyards keep your eye out if your driving you never know what you might see sitting in some farmers field.
Good Luck

there's an "ecology" auto part (pick-a-part) out on imperial highway... i hear they log all vehicles in their yard, so id give them a ring - last time i was there they had a 77 cheif and a 87 g-wag. here's their info:
13780 E. Imperial Hwy., Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670. 562/921-9974 Fax: 562/921-8648

i have gotten a lot of things from bjs they are great. i have never been to scotty's but they have had parts that ive needed. fontana is pretty far from santa monica but if you are going to be on the 405 you would take the 55 from costa mesa up to the 91 east to the 15 north to the 10 east, and Fontana is right there. i am sure you can get better directions from Scotty's, but if i had to make the trip i would be going that way. good luck.

From Santa Monica you take the 10 east for about 55 miles. If you look at a map, it's near the jct of the 10 and 15. The actual exit is Etiwanda in Fontana. Or maybe its east Ontario. Call 411.

Hey 18cherokee,
If it's not too late... may wanna try AMC Auto Salvage Co. They're in Wilmington, .... about 30 minutes from Santa Monica. Their inventory is strictly AMC/Jeep/Mercedes.... have lot's of Jeeps & FULL-SIZE vehicles on lot. Condition on stuff your wanting... you may have to comprimise(or you might get lucky), but they're worth a look-see.

The 10 goes due east from Santa Monica through the middle of downtown LA, and continues east to San Bernardino. Go past Etiwanda, to Cherry Ave. Take the offramp, go north (left turn) about 2mi to Whittram. Turn left (west); There's a sign about a block down on the left. Consider the time of day if you go - inbound to LA at the morning rush hour will be heavy traffic; reversed in the late afternoon.
I found the SJs in the pick-your-parts in SoCal were picked over. There are a few yards scattered around that specialize in older vehicles; the best strategy I've found is to go to the larger yards and ask which yards might have SJs. You'll likely be better off at AMC auto salvage cited by James. I haven't been there, but it's now on my list - thanks James.
