I posted this quiet some time ago and am still not sure.

Gave the 360 a oil change yesterday, fairly simple, until filling it with new oil.
Owners manual states it should require 4.7 litres/5 quarts allowing for filter change.
After putting 5 litres in the oil level was still 1/2" below the ADD mark. Dip stick tube was loose, so knocked it in tighter in the block, still the level is below the ADD mark :-(
Further investigation found the dip stick tube has been broken and welded by previous
owner, so is my dip stick original? It has a orange top and stamped with 3224880M which
I take is a part number.

QUESTIONS; Is this the right dip stick?
How long should it be?,
How far does the tube protrude out of the block?
What is the distance from top to Full/ADD marks?

As the owners manual states 4.7l/5qt is the correct amount of oil? About the only sure thing it tells me at the moment is that there is oil in the motor

Due for another oil change, what hasn't dripped out
:D

put in 4 quarts with filter change put a new mark on dipstick. this is your 1 quart low mark. add 1 quart. remark. this is your full mark.

Mike, thanks should have thought of this method myself redface.gif
Played around with the conversion tables to bring it all back to litres. Either my math is stuffed(quiet a possibility)or somethigs amiss.
Aussie owners manual quotes 5 litres for oil change with filter. Haynes manual quotes 5 qts. doing the conversion to litres, I end up 270ml ( 1/4 of a quart) short.
Should I worry about this or not. Aleast there will be some oil in it to leak ;)

coupla observations. my 84 leaked like a sieve due to excessive endplay of the crankshaft. i took to running it a pint low. then for the last year or so, i just topped it off as needed (avg a qt a wk). truck didnt know the difference. my bmw has a 4 liter capacity. my oil comes in qts. it gets 4 qts,the difference being 7 oz, lessn a cup. i'd put 4.5 liters in it and save the .5 for 1st top off. btw, my dipstick is the exact same as yours

OK..so as I thought the Dip Stick is original. How far does your tube stick out of the block?
