Got a 44HD out of a 78 J-20 for my 84 J-10. Has anybody ever changed one auto to a manual hub. What kind of hubs or rotors do you use ? Any help would be great.

Are you swaping the whole axkle? I do not follow the question I guess. Manual hubs can be put in where continous hubs were, nothing but the Hubs are needed.

Taking the 6 lug manual lock out of the 84 and putiing in a 44hd 8 lug out of a 78. Just not sure how to go about switching it. Do i need new rotors or just the hub section and use the old rotors. Are the 2 interchangable?

Locking hubs are the same, they will fit both axles without any parts. I am still trying to figure out, if you are putting the 78 axle into the 84........If so.......You realize that the driveshaft is on oposite sides, or are you swaping t-cases as well?

there is some confusion, since alot of people refer to the lockout as a "locking hub". the hub is actually the part that holds the wheelbearings, that the rotor attaches to. a lockout or drive flange will connect the axleshaft to the hub to make it spin.

i assume the "auto hub" you are refering to is the full time drive flange. like mr jeepman said,if you are refering to the lockout, all you have to do is remove the drive flange, and install the lockout.no rotor or hub change is neccessary.

if you are swapping in an 8 lug rear and want to convert your current front to 8 lugs, youll need to swap the brake backing plate, and the hub/rotor assembly. the spindles in your 84 should be the same,as are the calipers.

if you were refering to swapping the whole axle, hopefully you have a gameplan for the diff being on the wrong side thing that crazy jeep man mentioned ;)

Sorry...i must have the year wrong for the 8 lug. Just freaked me out though i had to go outside and check..lol... Now will the drive flange from the 6 lug 44 fit in the 8 lug, and will the manual hubs fit too ? Ya know i never even checked the year of the J-20 when we pulled the rears. It is drivers side drop. And yes i am swapping the whole rear. Thanks

yes, both the drive flange and the lockout will interchange between the 6 and 8 lug hub smile.gif
