I'm heading to Florida and want to drive to California through the States in September... I'm really looking forward to meet some folks on this forum.
Who's on my way? What can't I miss?
I'm looking for AMC/Jeep yards. Focussing on the Full-Sizes. Collections, yards, new parts? Any info is welcome...
Also looking for a 99% good condition grille for the J10 (razor grille) and a top-notch 1-piece front bumper... and a windshield and frame for an m715... and nasty axles that can accomodate 44" tires on 15" wheels for the m715 (6 hole wheels).
any ideas are welcome...
wohoooooo, can't wait to be there :-)

Stop by Jakes in North Carolina. I think they are up to almost 80 FSJs in their junkyard.

If your route brings you through Arkansas let me know. If I've decided to commit to converting on of my '78s to a rhino grill by then I'll have a razor grill available.

Anyone know if the results are posted anywhere? Always like to see how the market moves year to year. Some of these are very nice examples. Especially the '74 AMX....wow! Wonder if it has a 401? Now that would be rare!

I see you are going through Gainsville Florida. There is a Jeep Junkyard over in Palatka, about 30 miles from G'ville. He used to have a lot of FSJ's but they were in real bad shape and most went ot the crusher. But he did save a lot of parts off them. Let me know and if you want to go, I'll you the information.

If by some chance I'm in Dallas at that time, I'll let you know. If you decide to come thru the mid-west, I'll definitely be there for that!

Going through Sacramento you might want to check out J & W Auto Wreckers:
http://www.jwjeep.com/
Great place. I went for a carb linkage and they sent me out into the yard with some feller from the '60s brandishing an 11/16" combination wrench. He claimed he could disassemble anything with that wrench.
10 minutes and I had the linkage! :)

Dan,
You already know how to get ahold of me. I'll keep looking for your muscle grille and one piece bumper.

Where in California are you headed? There is some very beautiful country up where I am (Yosemite, etc). If you are headed this way, would love to meet up. My J10 isn't nearly as nice as any of yours, but it does ok ;)
I have a ton of photos on my flickr page if you are interested and want to see what's available in this area.
EDIT: DEFINITELY go to J&W Auto Wreckers. Most complete junk yard you are likely to find. And most have little rust thanks to be in CA.

It looks like you're going to miss both Colorado and Arizona. I always thought those were the best places for the FSJ... that's okay, I'm sure there'll still be plenty when you come through next time too. Have a safe trip.

I think he's planning on hitting the 4 Corners region.
I have to admit, the scenery is a bit nicer there than the Front Range.

We are off I-10 a little about halfway between San Antonio & El Paso. It looks like you are turning south off I-10 at Ft. Stocton, we are 40 miles from there. If you want to swing by we will put you up.
