I've been driving my jeep now with the 14 bolt in it for about a week. I noticed a kind of a whine sound only under accelaration. goes away as soon as I let off the gas. Doesnt sound like a bearing going out, not that low of a sound. Any ideas what could be causing it? and how to fix it? And would it have anything to do with the fact I changed yokes but didn't put in a new crush sleeve?
Also yesterday I put it in neutral and climbed under it, turned the driveshaft by hand and it went clunk, clunk in the rear end taking up the slack. I was expecting just a clunk. whats up with this?

The 'humming' sounds like the gears aren't set up correctly.

well that kinda sucks. I didn't do anything to this axle cept put new fluid in it and put the discs on.

Sounds about right to me, I setup my own so I know they are not done properly.
I've gotten used to it (it's a coast noise for me) and pulled the cover several times. 10.5" ring gear shows nothing abnormal, pinion gear could look better but they were used when I installed them.
It's a 14-Bolt, not going anyplace and just another $100 to swap in another so I don't really worry about it much.

Thats what I was wondering, when I changed the fluid everything in there looked all hunky dory. So I'll just get use to the noise. Plus I got another 4.10 ring and pinion so I won't worry about it. Thanks for the help.

There is a tech section on Pirate4x4 that tells you how to set up a 14B axle. I was able to do it with mine and it wasn't that hard.
