what should i do??

so....the 83 wagoneer limited i was so excited to get has developed a snag. the owner first said he was going to take care of a vacuum line before selling it to us. it wont stay engaged in 2wd after putting it in 4wd. it pops out of 2wd while driving causing you to pull over & force it back in. first he said it was a vacuum line but now says he wont pay a mechanic to check it out for sure even though he said he would & we waited a week for . now the attitude is $1,225 as is & if we dont want it someone else does. does anyone out there have any experiance with this problem? i have a feeling something is more wrong with it than a "simple vacuum line fix". we'd really love to get it but don't need to sell ours for a waggy that needs a new tranny or transfer case or whatever that costs thousands of $$ ya'know. so what do you guys think it could be? is it worth the risk to still buy it?

That is nice that the owner was offering to fix the vacuum line for you. However, this is a $1, 225 truck. If I was the seller, I wouldn't pay for anything more than a vacuum line check up. If it is tranny, pay to have a tranny specialist check it up for you. I'm pretty sure that the seller will let you take it to a tranny specialist. It's up to you whether it is worth a risk. Remember it is only $1,225 in the first place.
