I installed these seals on my 68 Wagoneer and now my doors won't shut all the way. They have been on for about 4 months now. I have tried adjusting the doors but they still will not close properly. I have about 1/4" gap on the latch side of the door. Anybody got pic's of them installed? maybe I did something wrong? or if you had the same problem what did you do to fix it?

You REALLY have to re-adjust them when putting brand new seals on as compared to the old seals.

Also, considering your rig is a 68, did it originally have door seals on the body side? Some of the early FSJ's had the door seal on the door side.

That said, I put newer FSJ doors (mid 80's) on my 68 M-715 and retrofitted it with body-side door seals with no problem.

BTW, you do know that you can adjust the door HINGES, not just the latch assembly, right? :D

The original seals were on the door not the body but I figured they would work ok BJ's site shows they fit 67-91 but I did just read they recommend cutting and glueing the corners. I DID NOT do that so maybe that is my problem? I will try it and see what happens.
Yes I tried adjusting the hinges and the latch and just can't get it to close all the way.

Post a pic of your corners. If you tried to bend it at the 90 degree corners, it may have bunched up too much in the corner.

I just put a set on my '65 yesterday and have a similar fit issue. They close to the first click, but not all the way shut so they won't lock. I'm going to run them for awhile then adjust the doors to see if I can get them to work. I did miter the corners, but still have the same issue.

I figured I'd give them a shot even though not recommended for my truck. It didn't have anything before and I don't know what the originals are supposed to look like anyway.

you can adjust the doors all you want, but, 74-91 seals simply won't work properly on the early stuff. I've even tried junkyard seals and the doors just won't close properly. I would guess there is a difference in the doors or the pinch weld location.

What are you using for weatherstrip/seal now?

I have had them on my J10 for about 5 years now, and the door still doesnt close easily. If a window is down, it does close easier. But I oftane have to close it twice.

so does anyone know of a seal that does work on older rigs or have a picture of what it is supposed to look like mounted on the door itself?

Doors wouldn't shut on my 77 when I put them on.

NOS set of correct door seals.

Is there a place to find NOS door seals for the early trucks or did you just happen across a set? I'd rather find something that works than force something else if at all possible.

that's what I was afraid of. I guess I can look at the positive, that I only need the two door seals since I have a pickup. I better start my years of searching right away...

JC Whitney has a pretty good selection of different styles of weatherstriping I might try something they have or talk to a restoration shop?

If you find out anything useful or find something that could work, please post back on this thread. I'm going to do some looking of my own and will do the same in case it can help anyone out.

Will do.
I have been looking at a few options. It looks like the glue on style that goes on the door is gonna be the best bet for the older rig's. I talked to a local resto shop and the guy said to bring down a sample and he would try to match it up.

Yeah, I'm thinking the "on-door" style would be best since that what everyone is telling me came on the early trucks. Does that mean you have some of the old stuff to work with? My truck came without so I'm not even sure of the profile. If you happen to have a pic that might help me out.

Well I still have some of the old stuff hanging around but I was thinking of assking james 1414d for a pic of the new stuff. Mine is so old and tore up it might lead us in the wrong direction.

If your still reading this James what do ya think? Can you snap a couple pic's and post 'em ?

The front doors are the hardest to find....especially the drivers side.

I finally found both sides, but NOS door rubber that is 40 years old....is brittle and always deformed or even torn from storage.

I put them into a plastic storage container filled with armor all (2 gallons) for a little long term soaking.

The M715 rubber is compartively easier to find (Army always orders lots more spare parts), the upper is different, but with some creative splicing, that is going to help a missing part of my passenger door.

I think the upper parts of doors of 73-91 are a little different.

380tom or James1414d... do either of you have a pic of what the seal is supposed to look like? It's definitely rainy season here in the Northwest and I'm trying to get her buttoned up before winter so I can put my carpet in. I'm getting a little leaking, because I can't get the doors to close all the way. I know I want to go to the "on the door" seal, but don't know where to start. Doesn't have to be original, just looking for something that will get the job done and allow me to close the doors. Any help is appreciated.

Here are some pic's of my '66 doors.
Not resized so they might be a little big.

I haven't been following this thread but sure would love to restore these doors with the correct seals or something similar.
The JCWhipme universals I'm running on the '70 doors do not work well at all with the older dash. I've had to reweld the door twice at the front by the vent window and they leak like crazy again.

Hope that helps.

My brother put door seals in from team grand wagoneer. They may be the same as bj's. His doors dont like to close either, you have to slam the heck out of them to hit the second latch lock.

I dont see how you can adjust the doors to close on the new weatherstrip, then the doors would be sticking out from the body.

the door seals on Elliots truck don't look right . On my 66 it gets wider where the latch is. ( look closely at the chipped paint) I have read that some people have used some wet suit material in these locations. I have found the standard on the door trim at a local restoration parts store. A lot of car companies used like seals in this era. I put some replacement seals on my 80 Cherokee and they are just starting to close well after 1- 1/2 years
