View Full Version : Rant & Question on Doors
Look what a stupid kid did to my 79 Chero when it was parked at my mechanic's shop today! If he could've only waited one more day  to drive around the corner. I was going to pick it up tomorrow:( .

Question is that I have a 76 Wagoneer driver front door available and I'm wondering if that can be a replacement for my 79 Chero.
Also, have an 84 Wagoneer complete body that I can use. I haven't seen Cherokees or J10/20's in the local junk yards.
What do you suggest?
Thanks in advance

I believe all of the doors (front) interchange. Only some of the strikers and hardware might be different from year to year.

If it happened at the garage they should be the ones sourcing out a new door, fender, and rocker panel! the damage was done while it was in there possession.

The latches change at 78. You can swap the door hardware over though. Swapping doors isnt hard..lining them up right to close is. Your mechanic owes you hardcore for that damage happening at his shop.
holy crap they destroyed that. And with the OEM patina'd paint, no way to ever match color. That plain sucks.

Yes I know, some other people where there when it happened and the kid was recognized and lives a couple of blocks away. He went right away to hid the offending weapon (Chrysler Dinasty) at his mom's house. Mechanic (friend of mine) and I went to talk to her and she's willing to pay for the damages. I'm getting an estimate on that soon. Kid's father was there today at the shop finding out what type of car he needs to look for to find replacement parts.
Is it difficult to remove the rocker panel and to install 79 latch and/or striker to newer 84 door? Wondering if having electric windows in my 79 Chero is worth the try.
About the OEM color, I was thinking on getting a new paint job all over closest to original but I haven't decided that yet. Maybe something different.
Opinions are welcome :)
Thanks!

well it's good they are helping you out.
Do you have the bear claw style latch or the tumbler style? If it's the bear claw you should be good with anything past you're year.
as far as replacing rockers, if you are pretty good at welding they are pretty easy to do. you just need to take you're time.

Not sure which is the bear claw or tumbler style, not familiar with those terms  . Hey my native language is Spanish, what can be expected out of that? But I'm sure I have both. Which type is in the 79 and which on the 84?
Not very good at welding so I'll leave that to the pros.
Thanks again to all, you sure are a big help!
