View Full Version : Opinions: switching from 33x12.5 to 33x10.5 MTs

Hello again to all

I have been seriously considering switching from my ProComp 33x12.5 MTs to a set of BFG 33x10.5 MTs to get a little more clearance and get my turning radius back. For the negative, I assume I will loose a little stability and some floatation.

I was wondering if anyone has made the switch and what you thought. On the Toyota's and TJ's I hear the more narrow tire drives better.

Your thoughts would be appreciated!

20k and they are worn out??? Thats crazy, I have seen them last 50k with proper rotating.

A narrower tire will drive better in some cases. It largely depends on vehicle weight and rim offset.

As for turning radius, you may get a little bit back. But with the other still being a 33" diameter tire, you won't be able to go back to the stock setting on the turn stops.

Well... they are not worn out from driving on the road... They are chewed up from off-roading. They have a lot of tread where the rocks have not chewed off the lugs. If I change them I will certainly swap all four.

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys but I am really not worried about tire life. The 33x10.5 MTs are pretty tall and skinny and I am wondering how they drive, handle and do off-road.

Thanks

Offroad Great
Deep snow great
Dry pavement good
Road noise good
Wet roads breaking acceleration BAD

Well, they will be worse in deep mud and in sand for sure. Especially under a heavy FSJ.

In loose terrain they will be better, as you will get more bite and less marble effect. For rocks, it depends. In some cases a wider tire is better, in some cases the higher ground pressure gives you more traction than if you had 12.50's.

I ran skinny tires for quite some time on my cherokee (31x7.50) when I only had a 4" lift on it. So long as I stayed out of mud, the thing was like a tank. Traction was awesome.
