i popped the hood today, the inside smells faintly of gas and some gas is seeping around the base of the carb. i also have wierd white powdery deposits on the outside of the carb. does this mean i now have an excuse to buy an edelbrock intake and carb? smile.gif

what's this a symptom of? thanks

You could try to tighten down the cover screws and see if that helps or maybe the float is sticking. OR just use that as the excuse you need to go with the new setup. The white powdery stuff is new?? If it is not corrosion I haven't a clue. Whatever you do don't ignore leaking fuel as nobody likes to see roast waggy.

I would personally go with the good excuse  but it may be just a carb rebuild for somethin' like a leaking throttle bracket stem seal. The white powder is probably corrosion if your current carb has an aluminum housing.

White powdery? Who was the PO? Pablo Escobar?
OH my GOD you are in danger! Quickly get a Edelbrock set up. Before its too late...
Or check the throttle shaft for wear.
Just like when we got headers for the RX7.
