What is a Dana 300 worth and are they only a passenger side drop? I thought everything Jeep after '79 was driver side drop. There's an '83 CJ near me with one in but it's passenger side drop. :(

They are worth a couple hundred generally. They also come in different strengths depending on output shafts. They are all pass drop but I want to say somebody used a drivers drop but that is probably my memory of the Bronco Dana 20's. They are easy to flip but unfortunately that costs a couple hundred more.

From the factory, all Dana 300s were passenger side drop. There are a few companies that make flip kits. There is substantial aftermarket support for the 300. You can upgrade to 4:1 gears, upgrade both output shafts, twin stick it, etc. By the time you do all of that, you could almost buy and atlas..

The last one I got was $35. I have paid as much as $175 and have seen them go for a lot more.
There is a long and short input version (I don't know all the particulars). They are all passenger drop with the CJ versions being 6 bolt round pattern w/23 spline input (like '80+ FSJ T-Cs).
1980 IHC ScoutII is the only other factory 4x4 that used them IIRC.
LOTS of after market support..flip kits to make drivers drop..twin sticks..outputs..inputs..lower range gearing..dblr kits etc...

It's in a junkyard and they get $45 for t-cases. It's behind a 258/automatic. If it's still there I may just pick it up. Thanks for the info.

Jeeps had two versions, one is about 1" longer than the other. I also believe IH used a Dana 300 for a short period.
You can get a STak case, and flip it that way if need be. Basicaly, it's a D300 case, but set up to run the output on the other side.

That should be a TF999 automatic and a darn good transmission. They can be built to take gobbs of horsepower and have the lowest first gear outside of a 700R4. I run the 999/300 combo in my modified Jeepster behind a highly built 4.3. Transmission is worth some bucks a is the automatic brake pedal assembly and shift linkage.

Ditto-There were not too many automatic CJ's from 80 and up (that's when this combo started, previous CJ's used the 400/qtrac combo). With the stereing column and all other appropriate parts it would be worth getting and reselling. From my experience 1980 was the only year that had a short output shaft version of the Dana 300. I've seen them in CJ5's for that year and I assume it was because of driveshaft angles. All the input shaft/spline count etc.. are the same on the CJ's.

10-years of wheeling, 39's, one tons, a pissed 360, and the TF999/Tera Low D300 still in there.
